After working in private and public hospitals, public health and academia, Paulette Dew Geisenkotter Hammond retired from Quest Diagnostics as chief clinical virologist.
A graduate of Catonsville High School (Md.), Hammond received her Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology (with honors) from the University of Maryland, College Park and her Master of Science degree from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, Baltimore. She is an emeritus member of the American Society for Microbiology, Maryland Branch, having served for many years as secretary.
As a longtime advocate for peace, justice, diversity, equality and inclusion in the political arena, Hammond has served on the boards of many non-governmental organizations, including the National Organization for Women, Buffalo Chapter, Maryland United for Peace and Justice and the Maryland Conservation Council. She represents the latter two in the Citizens Campaign for the Environments and Safe on Pesticides Coalition. Hammond was recently appointed as a member of the state Commission on Environmental Justice and Sustainable Communities.
She is a member of Christ the King Episcopal Church, Woodlawn (Md.), and is the facility coordinator and treasurer of the vestry, a member of Diocesan Council, and delegate to its annual convention. She also volunteers for its new ministry, Refugee and Immigrant Services and Empowerment.
Hammond was born in Baltimore, Md. and raised in Catonsville. After residing briefly in Evanston, Ill. and Buffalo, NY, she has lived in Catonsville for the past 30+ years. She has two daughters, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
