Stephen J. Nolan is a civil trial lawyer with Smith, Gildea & Schmidt, LLC, a regional law firm with a national practice.
Nolan received his bachelor of arts degree, cum laude, from Villanova University and earned his J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law. He has served three terms on the Board of Governors of the Maryland State Bar Association and is a member of the American Bar Association. Nolan is a past president of the Baltimore County Bar Foundation and the Baltimore County Bar Association.
In 2008, he was elected National Board Chair of the American Lung Association and served on its Board until 2018. Nolan has received several awards throughout his career, including the Maryland Bar Foundation’s Award for Legal Excellence for the Advancement of Public Service Responsibility, the Foundation’s Award for Advancement of the Rights of the Disadvantaged, the Daily Record’s Leadership in the Law Award, and an AV® rating in Martindale-Hubbell’s® Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers.
A Timonium, Md. resident, Nolan has authored several articles which were published in The Maryland Bar Journal. He has also served as a member of the Baltimore County Ethics Commission.
