Tavia Mick
CCBC Alumni,
A Bite of Heaven Bakery Owner

Hardworking CCBC alumna Tavia Mick’s sweet idea for a business has become a reality. A love for baking, the desire to honor the memory of a lost friend, and a fierce determination to succeed have formed the foundation for A Bite of Heaven Bakery – where every bite is heavenly!

Those who attended CCBC’s recent Diamonds and Denim celebration – marking the opening of the newly renovated Hilton Center – can attest to that claim. Tavia created the stunning (and delicious) three-tiered cake and other sweet treats for guests to enjoy throughout the event.

After earning her associate degree at CCBC and a bachelor’s degree at UMBC, Tavia found full-time work at the Social Security Administration. But when her best friend passed away, Tavia wanted to pay tribute to her memory through continuing an activity they had enjoyed together: baking.

Soon she was sharing her cookies, cakes and other baked goods with family and friends, then at a farmer’s market stand. After three years of renting a commercial kitchen, it was time to open her own bakery. A Bite of Heaven was born.

A Bite of Heaven specializes in creating fresh-baked products, made from scratch with no additives or preservatives. Thanks to dedicated gluten-free and vegan kitchen facilities, the bakery can accommodate nearly every dietary need.

“I put a lot of love in everything I bake for my customers,” Tavia said. Still working full time at SSA and managing the bakery evenings and weekends, she is determined to make her business succeed.

“No matter how many road blocks come along the way, never give up on your dream,” she said. “You won’t know success If you never step out on a limb.”
