CCBC Student Massage Clinic

The Therapeutic Massage Student Clinic offers massage to the public in order to provide students with hands-on experience in working with a diverse population in a clinical environment.

  • The massage and bodywork provided is intended to relieve muscle tension, promote relaxation and create a general feeling of well-being.
  • Students will provide one-hour client-focused massages incorporating bodywork modalities and techniques learned in the classroom.
  • Students will develop and/or enhance their knowledge and skills in:
    • Professional communication and client education
    • Intake and documentation of client information and session
    • Client assessment and development of appropriate session plan
    • Delivery of massage techniques/strokes using proper body mechanics
    • Time and office management
      • Student Clinic is not a full-service spa or a clinical practice. We encourage clients to seek ongoing massage therapy with a properly trained and licensed massage therapist.

About the massage session

The 60-minute appointment will include:
  • 5-10 minutes of reviewing health history & goals for the session and changing clothes
  • 45-50 minutes of massage
  • 5-10 minutes of changing clothes, review/education and student evaluation

  • We request that new clients arrive 15 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment time to complete intake forms.
  • We use unscented massage lotion or cream.
  • We recommend that you wear comfortable clothing, for ease in changing and clothing that would not be adversely affected by any residual oil on your skin from the massage.
  • The client will always be covered with a sheet, except for the area on which the student is massaging at the time.
  • The student will discuss with you the appropriate level of disrobing which will be based on your comfort level and the body area(s) that will be addressed in the session. For example, if you are only having your upper body massaged, you might only need to remove your upper body clothing.
  • The Massage Therapy Student Clinic follows the NCBTMB and Maryland State guidelines for maintaining proper boundaries with clients.
  • All medical records and client information are held in strictest confidentiality according to Maryland State Regulations and HIPPA standards.
  • The Student Clinic space is one large room, separated by curtains, to create 8 semi-private cubicles. These cubicles are not sound-proof, so we ask that you turn off or leave cell phones behind and speak at a lower volume.
