Men’s Soccer Team Picks Up First Conference Victory
September 9, 2002 - CCBC Dundalk’s Men’s Soccer team split
a pair of games this past weekend, defeating CCBC Catonsville 2-0 on
Thursday and losing to Essex County College (New Jersey) 2-1 Sunday. The
Lions record is 1-2 overall, 1-0 in the Maryland JUCO conference.
Head Coach, Ben Bays, said the team intentionally plays a tough
non-conference schedule to help prepare for the difficult games ahead.
The team opened the season by playing the eighth ranked Union County
College (New Jersey) on August 30 and then played Essex a week later.
Dundalk lost to both Essex and Union by 2-1 scores. Coach Bays knows
that his team will benefit from these tough games as the season
progresses.
Also last week, forty-five student athletes participated in CCBC
Dundalk’s first annual Student Athlete Orientation. The students
representing all of Dundalk’s teams spent Tuesday, September 3 learning
strategies for success in the classroom and in life. In addition to CCBC
Dundalk president, Dr. Eugenia Proulx, and Dean of Learning and Student
Development, Dr. Barney Wilson, addressing the student athletes, former
University of Maryland basketball star, Ernie Graham, also spoke to
them. Graham illustrated how the poor choices that he made negatively
and tragically impacted his awesome potential. The students enjoyed both
breakfast and lunch as part of the daylong event.
The Lions have only one event on the schedule this week, a home men’s
soccer game vs. Allegany College on Friday, September 13 at 6:00 PM
played at CCBC Dundalk’s Stadium.
