"The Department of Teacher Education enables students to achieve the
foundational knowledge and skills set forth by national and state
standards for effective teachers in their respective majors (i.e., early
childhood, elementary, secondary and special education). Additionally,
students are instilled with passion, enthusiasm, and dedication for the
profession."
In keeping with the Teacher Education Department's mission statement,
there is a teacher education coordinator on each campus who serves as
the academic advisor for the education majors who will guide the student
toward appropriate course selection and current transfer information. By
implementing and modeling the educational philosophy which the
department's mission statement is based upon, our faculty can assist our
students throughout their educational experiences at CCBC. The
department places a high value on academic competence while attempting
to nurture a positive sense of self; self-esteem, respect for others,
and an understanding of and a commitment to democratic
ideals/principles. The above are all values which must be promoted for
all students, but always keeping in mind "impropria persona," each
according to his/her own abilities. It is this individual attention that
makes The Community College of Baltimore County the collegial gem that
it is.
