Program Description:
These curricula are
designed to provide students with education and clinical training in the
field of Radiation Therapy. Graduates will be employed in Radiation
Oncology Departments where they will primarily treat cancer patients using
high-energy X, gamma, and electron beams of radiation. The clinical
components of these programs are provided by the Maryland Regional
Radiation Therapy Education Association.
Although the Community College of Baltimore County has an open door
policy for admissions, the Radiation Therapy Program is a selective
admissions program and is highly competitive. In order to apply, you
must complete a selective admissions/personal data application and
submit it to the Office of Records and Registration by July 1 for the
Fall session that you intend to enter the A.A.S. Degree program.
Registered Radiologic Technologists (RTR) applying to the Radiation
Therapy certificate program should submit their selective
admissions/personal data application by July 1 for the Fall semester.
Enrollment in this program is limited by the availability of clinical
training facilities. The academic credentials of the most competitive
candidates include a minimum of a 2.8 overall GPA and the completion of
BIOL 109, PHYS 101, MATH 135 with a grade of "C" or better. You should
complete these courses by the semester prior to entering the program.
Applicants not meeting these requirements may seek alternatives from the
Admissions Office and Program Director to be eligible for later
consideration. The competitiveness of admissions depends on the overall
pool pf applicants.
Students must be at least 18 years of age before entering RTTT 222.
Radiation Therapy students must achieve a minimum of a "C" grade in
Radiation Therapy and related courses to continue in this program.
This program has been designated "Statewide" by the Maryland Higher
Education Commission. This means that currently enrolled out-of-county
Maryland residents who are formally admitted to the program may be
reimbursed for a portion of their out-of-county tuition.
