Community Education
The Community Education department makes lifelong learning education
accessible, convenient and enjoyable. Hundreds of course options touch
every generation from youth to senior citizen and strive to put the
college in everyone’s neighborhood. Through Community Education, CCBC
provides courses throughout the region in public schools, libraries,
senior centers and various community centers, as well as on CCBC’s main
campuses. Programs include:
Adult and Family Literacy focuses on
helping adult learners master basic reading and math skills. In
partnership with Baltimore County Public Schools, this area offers:
Instruction to improve academic skills
GED preparation
Workplace
literacy services
External High School Diploma Program (EDP)
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
The Community Education
program offers more than 3,000 community education courses each year,
providing learning opportunities for more than 10,000 students.
Curricula feature both introductory and in-depth learning experiences in
areas such as:

Small business

Boating safety
Captain’s licensing
The Youth Enrichment Center
focuses on classes for students age 16 and under. The Center provides area
youth the opportunity to learn in a fun, engaging environment. From
toddler to teen, the Center offers courses that include:

Sciences
Mathematics
Languages
Computer technology
The Senior Institute
plays a vital role in the lives of thousands of older adults. The
Institute offers a vast and eclectic array of courses and programs,
ranging from music to computers, fitness to foreign language, fine arts
to cultural events. Organizations providing residential services for
seniors can arrange customized contract courses for their residents.
The Center for Alternative
Customized College Education for Special Students offers contract
courses created to help individuals with disabilities become productive
members of society. There are six separate program areas:

Summer Academy for Students with Significant Disabilities
LIFE-Learning for
Integration in Family Environments
Single Step offers academic skills
and vocational prep programming is designed for students with
disabilities and learning challenges. Courses are offered on the east
and west side of Baltimore County. Single Step’s mission is to meet the
transitional, career training, and lifelong learning needs of the
greater Baltimore area’s disabled community.
