MUSIC
Keyboard Geography: Summer Sampler (Ages 6-8)
Total Cost: $59 (Tuition: $0 Fees: $59)
You and your child will make beautiful music together through the use of musical games that will introduce basic keyboard skills. Children will learn about notation, hand and finger number recognition solfedge singing, and hand and body coordination. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

Keyboard Geography, Part II (Ages 6-8)

You and your child are just getting started in the wonderful world of music. Repetition is the key to success. Review skills learned in Part I and continue to develop basic knowledge. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

Child's Piano Class (Ages 9-11)

In a supportive group setting, your child will work with a full sized electronic keyboard and learn an introduction to keyboard basics, finger work, and note reading. Earphones permit silent practice.

Rock Guitar for Teens (Ages 11-16)

Do you have a guitar? Always wanted to be in a band but not sure how to get started? Then this class is for you. Learn to play the guitar by studying traditional rock rhythms, progressions, stylistic sounds and phrasing of some of the most popular guitar artists. Students will learn the basic music theory skills necessary to play some of their favorite music or begin to write their own. This class is designed for the teen with little or no formal guitar training.

Private Lessons
Private music instruction on most instruments and voice is offered for both youth and adult students. Through high-quality one-on-one instruction, students progress with individual attention appropriate to their skill level and ability. Lessons are arranged on an individual basis with the appropriate instructor, instruments are not provided. Before registering, call the Creative Arts Center at 410-780-6533 to make arrangements for placement with an instructor. Students must be 6 years old for piano, 8 years for other instruments, and 11 or older for voice. Lessons are offered at Catonsville, Dundalk, and Essex campuses and other locations in the county. Not all instruments are offered at all locations.

DRAWING/PAINTING/SCULPTURE

Children's Summer Art Studio (Ages 7-11)

Draw, paint and sculpt in a variety of media. Develop your artistic skills while exploring different subject matter. Fun art exercises are combined with student-directed projects using a variety of subject matter including still life, landscape and portraits. Some art history is included.

Japanese Anime and Manga (Ages 12-16)

More than just Japanese anime (animation) and manga (comics). This class will give you insight into Japanese culture and give you an understanding and appreciation of Asian mythology, symbolism, martial arts, and Zen philosophy. Drawing techniques of Japanese animation and comics, creating individual characters and stories, will be included in this course.

Teen Art Studio (Ages 12-16)

You have your own artistic style. Discover it and express it through still-life, landscape and portrait projects. Complete drawings or paintings using a variety of media whether you're a beginner or have some drawing or painting experience.

Techno-Art: Cartooning (Ages 9-12)

A fun and exciting workshop explores the traditional and digital techniques of animation. Create your own unique works of art with different three-dimensional computer animation and cartoon-like animation using a variety of software packages.

THEATRE

Magic Box Theatre (Ages 5-9)

Children will delight in creating dramatic stories from a variety of props selected from a special "Magic" box. In an age appropriate environment, the children will develop their imagination through the expression of ideas, creative movement, and dialogue and guided play.

Summer on Broadway (Ages 9-11)

If you love Broadway and can't resist singing, this class is for you! You'll love to prepare and perform some of the best loved show tunes. This class is fun, energetic and will instill such confidence in all who participate.

Theatre Academy: Magnet School Preparation (Ages 9-11)

If you are interested in auditioning for a performing arts magnet school, Theatre Academy is the class for you. Focus on monologue preparation, audition techniques, staging and performance skills.

Did someone say Game? Drama? Stage? Sign me up. Children will love to learn pantomime, improvisation, and personal expression techniques through dramatic play. This summer young child's mind will be stimulated, creative thinking will result and group interaction skills achieved.

Audition Techniques (Ages 9-11)

This class teaches children how to prepare and present a good audition for school and community plays and musicals. Students will be taught what to bring, wear and how to find local listings of new auditions in their areas.

Design and Decorate Your Dream Room(Ages 12-16)

Use your creativity to make a decorating plan for a room in your home. Learn how to match colors, accessorize and pick fabric, place furniture and plan for just the right look. This is a good way to find out if you have the flair to be an interior designer or want to just have fun generating ideas for your room.

Project Runway: Sketch and Design (Ages 12-16)

Does everyone always comment on your style and sense of fashion? Create your own fashion sketches and basic patterns. Let your fashion sense shine through in sketches of your own mini collection.

Make rings, bracelets and jewelry of all kinds. You will make necklaces, anklets, hair clips and more with glass beads, modeling clay, shrink plastic,

Fun with Chinese (Mandarin) (Ages 7-11)

This introductory Chinese course is designed to help the student with the first steps in listening to and speaking the Mandarin form of the language. Reading and writing skills will be introduced and practiced when the students have demonstrated some basic conversational skills. Also, the learner will be introduced to the rich and fascinating world of Chinese culture through the centuries.

Fun with Japanese (Ages 7-11)

This class explores beginning Japanese language and cultural aspects. The student will develop skills in istening, speaking, reading and writing basic Japanese language through conversational dialogues, music, games and hands-on activities. Topics include greetings, numbers, family members, colors, daily activities, and food in a culturally immersed experience.

Spanish - Level I (Ages 7-11)

Spanish is not only spoken by 320 million people around the world but is also the first or second language for over 14 million people in the United States. Come have fun and learn to speak Spanish in this beginning class that is designed for young people. Computer Keyboarding for Young People (Ages 7-11)

It is never too soon to master keyboarding skills. Whether you want to work with word processing or computer graphics, you can learn correct keyboarding techniques and avoid the "hunt and peck" method as you have fun with Microsoft Word.

Computer Animation Workshop (2 week class)
Total Cost: $258 (Tuition: $0 Fees: $258)
In this creative workshop, students learn to draw and produce a short animation using Macromedia Flash animation software. The class explores basic concepts of computer animation including basic drawing tools as well as simple animations, glow buttons, graphic morphing and graphic layering. Each student will create a cartoon-like animation, outlining and revising a storyboard and presenting a short animation to class.

Having fun putting the pizzazz in your own Web page designs using Microsoft FrontPage. Students will learn how to create Web pages that express their individuality with the use of color, forms, tables, frames, hyperlinks and graphic designs.

Photostory (Ages 7-11)

Do you have photographs from a favorite trip or a special party or an amazing game that you would like to preserve in a unique way? In this class you will learn to scan photos, organize them to tell the story of your special event and then add narration in your own voice along with background music. You will create an awesome video story that can be played on any PC with Windows Media Player.

CSI: Forensic Detectives (Ages 14-16)

Crime scene investigation is a hot topic. Step into forensic science to find out how professional investigators collect and identify fingerprints, examine hair and fiber samples, identify blood spatter patterns, identify footprints and use cast materials.

Algebra I (Ages 10-13)

Increase your ability to reason by using algebraic concepts. Learn how to: find the numerical value in an algebraic expression, factor binomials and trinomials, plot X and Y and find their values, graph linear equations, use substitution and comparison, and create arithmetic or geometric series. Through a variety of engaging activities, you will increase your ability to reason using more complex algebraic concepts and be more confident when taking the SAT test. Designed for high school students who have already completed Algebra I.

FUN with science! Explore properties of matter, physical and chemical changes, and classification and structure of matter. The property of density lets you turn copper into silver or gold. Make Gak and Gloop as you investigate polymers and states of matter. Use laboratory equipment to collect and analyze data.
