MUSIC

Music and Movement (Ages 3-5)

All children love to move. With the addition of rhythmic instruments and song singing this class not only develops musicianship skills but the love and joy of music. Each child must be accompanied by a parent.

Keyboard Geography: Summer Sampler (Ages 6-8)

You and your child will make beautiful music together through the use of musical games that will introduce basic keyboard skills. Children will learn about notation, hand and finger number recognition solfedge singing, and hand and body coordination. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

Keyboard Geography Part II (Ages 6-8)

You and your child are just getting started in the wonderful world of music. Repetition is the key to success. Review skills learned in Part I and continue to develop basic knowledge. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

Mini Maestro's Making Music

All children are musical! Here's a fun way to learn basic keyboard skills and songs on electronic keyboards and develop musicianship skills through games, rhythmic exercises and creative expressions. You will not want to miss our mini maestro's keyboard concert scheduled for the last day of class.

Child's Piano Class (Ages 7-11)

In a supportive group setting, your child will work with a full sized electronic keyboard and learn keyboard basics, finger work, and note reading. Earphones permit silent practice.

Kids with Guitars (Ages 9-11)

Young students can study guitar in an age appropriate manner. Because young hands and fingers are still developing, this class will teach strumming and body alignment techniques appropriate to children's growing muscles. You'll also learn basic guitar maintenance, chord progressions, tablature and simple songs. Bring your own guitar to class.

Rock Guitar for Teens (Ages 11-16)

Do you have a guitar? Always wanted to be in a band but not sure how to get started? Then this class is for you. Learn to play the guitar by studying traditional rock rhythms, progressions, stylistic sounds and phrasing of some of the most popular guitar artists. Students will learn the basic music theory skills necessary to play some of their favorite music or begin to write their own. This class is designed for the teen with little or no formal guitar training.

Private Lessons
Private music instruction on most instruments and voice is offered for both youth and adult students. High-quality one-on-one instruction provides individual attention appropriate to your skill level and ability. Lessons are arranged on an individual basis with the appropriate instructor, instruments are not provided. Before registering, call the Creative Arts Center at 443-840-1533 to make arrangements for placement with an instructor.

Children will delight in creating dramatic stories from a variety of props
selected from a special "Magic" box. In an age appropriate environment, the children will develop their imagination through the expression of ideas, creative movement, and dialogue and guided play.

Children will continue to stimulate their imaginations and express their ideas through guided play and creating dramatic stories. Perfect for both new and returning students.

Summer on Broadway (Ages 9&ndash11)

If you love Broadway and can't resist singing, this class is for you! You'll love to prepare and perform some of the best loved show tunes. This class is fun, energetic and will instill self confidence in all who participate.

Theatre Academy: Magnet School Preparation (Ages 9&ndash11)

If you are interested in auditioning for a performing arts magnet school, Theatre Academy is the class for you. Focus on monologue preparation, audition techniques, staging and performance skills.

Did someone say Game? Drama? Stage? Sign me up. Children will love to learn pantomime, improvisation, and personal expression techniques through dramatic play. This summer your child's mind will be stimulated, creative thinking will result and group interaction skills achieved.

Create a cast of puppet characters&hellipwrite your own stories&hellipfind a world of self expression. Children will find all this and more as they use puppetry to learn through play. A final performance will be presented on the last day of class.

Fun with Clay: A Sculpture Studio (Ages 9&ndash13)

It's fun&hellipit's creative! Learn hand-building techniques and clay types and then begin to craft your own sculpture using embossing, glazing surface decoration, along with coil and slab techniques to make pinch pots.

Japanese Animé and Manga (Ages 12 &ndash 16)

More than just viewing animation and comics, you'll learn drawing techniques, character and stories plus get an insight into Japanese culture and learn to understand and appreciate Asian mythology, symbolism, martial arts, and Zen philosophy.

This fun and exciting workshop explores the traditional and digital techniques of animation. Create your own unique works of art using different three- dimensional computer animation and cartoon-like animation with a variety of software packages.

Fun with Japanese (Ages 7-11)

Explore beginning Japanese language and develop skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing basic Japanese language through conversational dialogues, music, games and hands-on activities.

Take your first steps in listening to and speaking the Mandarin form of the Chinese language. Practice reading and writing skills once you have demonstrated some basic conversational skills as you learn about the rich and fascinating world of Chinese culture through the centuries.

Spanish is not only spoken by 320 million people around the world but is also the first or second language for over 14 million people in the United States. Come have fun and learn to speak Spanish in this beginning class that is designed for young people. The class will integrate culture and language use through conversational dialogues, games, music, and dance.

Introduction to Classical Ballet (Ages 7&ndash10)

Young students' will practice Classical Ballet while having fun learning dance techniques that builds muscles and strengthen their body. Dancing improves flexibility, body alignment, and coordination. Your child will be introduced to the history of dance, dance techniques, dance expression, and aesthetic. This session will conclude with a dance performance. No dance experience is required. Uniform Girls: leotard, tights and ballet shoes. Computer Keyboarding for Young People (Ages 7-11)

It is never too soon to master keyboarding skills. Whether you want to work with word processing or computer graphics, you can learn correct keyboarding techniques and avoid the "hunt and peck" method as you have fun with Microsoft.

Macromedia flash animation will be your ticket to learning to draw and produce a short animation. Explore the basic concepts of computer animation including basic drawing tools, simple animations, glow buttons, graphic morphing and graphic layering. Create your own cartoon-like animation, outlining and revising a storyboard and presenting a short animation to class

Web Page Designs (Ages 12-16)
