Engineering

ENR 001 – Civil Engineering and Architecture Project Lead the Way Professional Development

This course is designed to enable the student to learn and incorporate the use of Revit and various civil engineering topics in the Project Lead the Way Civil Engineering and Architecture (CEA) curriculum. Topics to be covered include using MD Solids for beam analysis, beam size selection, and calculating reaction forces, moments, and deflection; beams and columns; surveying; soil analysis; heat loss/gain; and water pressure; 2011 software changes; setup screen and location of commands; creating walls and build-up (layers); 2D to 3D viewing screen; window/door and other components; dimensioning; creating levels, roofs, site (toposurface), room layouts, window and door schedules; stairs; sections; grids; textures; walkthroughs; and camera/renderings.

Course Objectives:
1. demonstrate the ability to use Revit software for projects in the CEA curriculum,
2. explain the civil engineering material covered in the CEA curriculum, and
3. utilize MD Solids for beam analysis and selection.

ENR 002 – Inventor Level 1 Project Lead the Way Professional Development

This course is designed to enable the student to learn and incorporate the use of Autodesk Inventor in the Project Lead the Way curriculum. Topics to be covered include 2011 Software Changes; additive and subtractive extrusion; feature commands - Fillet, Hole, Mirror, Revolve, Shell, Sweep, and Loft; parametric dimensioning; work points; planes and axis; assembly constraints; presentation files; exploded views and parts list; and using the Content Center. Students will also demonstrate an understanding of how to create parts and assemblies for projects in the Introduction to Engineering Design (IED) and Principles of Engineering (POE) curriculum.

Course Objectives:
1. use Inventor for projects in the IED and POE curriculum,
2. utilize the Content Center, and
3. create parts and assemblies.

ENR 003 – Inventor Level 2 Project Lead the Way Professional Development

This course is designed to enable the student to learn and incorporate the use of Autodesk Inventor in the Project Lead the Way curriculum. Topics to be covered include part creation within an assembly, drive constraints and motion constraints, rendering with Inventor Studio, animating with Inventor Studio, finite element analysis, 3D sketch features; and new features in Inventor 2011 for projects in the Introduction to Engineering Design (IED) and Principles of Engineering (POE) curriculum.

Course Objectives:
1. use Inventor for advanced projects in the IED and POE curriculum, and
2. create parts within an assembly.

ENR 004 – Fischertechnik Level 1 Project Lead the Way Professional Development

This course is designed to enable the student to learn and incorporate the use of fischertechnik and RoboPro in the Project Lead the Way curriculum. Topics to be covered include introduction to RoboPro (variables, loops, and functions); an overview of the Principles of Engineering (POE) and Gateway to Technology (GTT) Kits; hands-on projects; and review of support websites and materials.

Course Objectives:
1. use fischertechnik for projects in the GTT and POE curriculum,
2. use RoboPro for projects in the GTT and POE curriculum, and
3. apply hands-on projects in the curriculum.

ENR 005 – Fischertechnik Level 2 Project Lead the Way Professional Development

This course is designed to enable the student to learn and incorporate the use of fischertechnik and RoboPro in the Project Lead the Way curriculum. Topics to be covered include RoboPro functions, pneumatics, and sensor usage; an overview of the Principles of Engineering (POE) and Gateway to Technology (GTT) Kits; hands-on projects; and review of support websites and materials, including the recently developed fischertechnik manual.

Course Objectives:
1. use fischertechnik for more advanced projects in the GTT and POE curriculum;
2. use RoboPro for projects in the GTT and POE curriculum; and
3. demonstrate the ability to incorporate more challenging hands-on projects in the curriculum.

ENR 010 – Inventor Level 1: Project Lead the Way Professional Development

This course is designed to enable the student, who is a teacher with Inventor software knowledge, to learn the basic 3D features of Inventor sketch tools. Topics to be covered include review of 2D sketch tools, 3D sketch tools, American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards, and new Inventor software features.

Course Objectives:
1. use Inventor for projects in the Introduction to Engineering Design (IED) and Principles of Engineering (POE) curriculum,
2. utilize the Content Center,
3. create parts and basic assemblies, and
4. create a working drawing that meets ANSI standards.

ENR 011 – Inventor Level 2: Project Lead the Way Professional Development

This course is designed to enable the student to learn the program Inventor Level 2. Topics to be covered include assemblies, assembly constraints, exploded views, assembly drawings with balloons, and parts lists, setting and using iProperties, parametric dimensioning, and use of the content center.

Course Objectives:
1. use Inventor for projects in the Introduction to Engineering Design (IED) and Principles of Engineering (POE) curriculum,
2. use iProperties effectively, and
3. create parts and assemblies.

ENR 012 – Inventor Level 3: Project Lead the Way Professional Development

This course is designed to enable the student to learn the program Inventor level 3. Topics to be covered include modeling complex parts from orthographic drawings, creating parts within an assembly, advanced assembly, creating new materials and setting the iProperties, use of IParts and IFeatures, use of 3D sketch, rendering in Inventor Studio, using the Design Accelerator, analyzing parts with Finite Element Analysis, and developing Sheet Metal parts . Prerequisite: Inventor Level 2

Course Objectives:
1. use Inventor for projects in the Introduction to Engineering Design (IED) and Principles of Engineering (POE) curriculum,
2. create complex parts from orthographic drawings, and
3. create new materials and setting the iProperties for those materials.

ENR 013 – Digital Electronics Project Lead the Way Professional Development

This course is designed to enable the student to learn and incorporate the use of digital electronics (DE) in the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) curriculum. Topics to be covered include applied logic and elements, engineering and engineering technology, an overview of the Principles of Engineering (POE) and Gateway to Technology (GTT) kits, hands-on projects, and review of support websites and materials.

Course Objectives:
1. implement and use DE for projects in the POE curriculum,
2. perform an investigation of analog and digital using digital boards,
3. solve a number system using binary addition, and
4. demonstrate logic gates and functions.

ENR 024 – Digital Electronics Project Lead the Way Professional Development

This course is designed to enable the student to learn and incorporate the use of Digital Electronics (DE) in the PLTW curriculum. Topics to be covered include: applied logic and elements, Engineering and Engineering Technology, an overview of the Principles of Engineering (POE) and Gateway to Technology (GTT) Kits, hands-on projects, and review of support websites and materials.

Course Objectives:
1. introduce and use DE for projects in the POE curriculum,
2. investigate analog and digital using digital boards,
3. solve numbers system using binary addition, and
4. demonstrate logic gates and functions.
