PHE 112 – Complementary and Alternative Medicine

An introductory course for health care professionals who want a more complete understanding of the field of complementary and alternative medicine.

Course Objectives:
1. describe mind-body practices,
2. define alternate medical systems, and
3. explain healing philosophies, modalities, and systems.

PHE 113 – Mental Health and Aging

A discussion of the most commonly occurring mental health problems experienced by older adults and important factors related to mental health promotion and wellness, as well as strategies, therapies, and services that may be directed at improving the mental health of the elderly.

Course Objectives:
1. discuss strategies, therapies, and services that may be directed at improving the mental health of the elderly,
2. explain commonly occurring mental health problems experienced by older adults,
3. discuss diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's and how they directly affect the brain, and
4. demonstrate an understanding of how the brain functions and operates.
