SMB 001 – Starting A Consulting Practice

Do you have training or knowledge that could be useful to others? Have you ever considered becoming a consultant? This course is designed to help those who wish to set up a consulting practice get started. Topics will include skills assessments, pricing policies, contracting, marketing, and more. There will also be an online discussion area where students and the instructor can exchange valuable business ideas and resources. The instructor will keep students updated by citing resources such as books, periodicals, and organizations designed to help small businesses.

Course Objectives:
1. assess personal/professional skills,
2. set goals for their new firm,
3. develop the firm¿s concept,
4. implement financial planning,
5. perform market analysis,
6. write marketing plan,
7. keep good financial records, and
8. understand taxation for consultants.

SMB 007 – Business Ethics: Navigating the Gray Areas

Examine business ethics and their long-term benefits. Explore the differences between legal and ethical issues and approaches. Intended for business owners, managers, supervisors and others dealing with customers and suppliers.

Course Objective:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
1. distinguish between ethical and legal concerns,
2. recognize the benefits of business ethics,
3. determine ethical responses to business issues, and
4. identify the relationship between negative crises and ethical violations.

SMB 009 – Strategic Business Planning: Planning for Growth

Examine strategic approaches to developing a business plan. Review techniques for positioning the organization to successfully target the right markets, and how to plan for sustainable growth that is aligned with organizational vision. Intended for managers and small business owners.

Course Objective:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
1. demonstrate an understanding of the value of a business plan,
2. define the planning process,
3. develop a vision statement,
4. develop organizational goals and objectives, and
5. develop a basic strategic business plan.

SMB 013 – MANAGE/CUSTOMER SERVICE FUNCTN

Course Objective
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
1. assess employee skill levels,
2. measure customer satisfaction,
3. identify process improvement opportunities, and
4. implement performance improvement measures
