MIT OpenCourseWare
A free and open educational resource for faculty, students, and self-learners around the
world. OCW supports MIT's mission to advance knowledge and education, and serve the
world in the 21st century. Access to MIT course materials does not require any registration
or provide access to MIT faculty.
Carnegie Mellon's Open Learning Initiative (OLI)
Through the OLI project, Carnegie Mellon is working to help the World Wide Web make
good on its promise of widely accessible and effective online education. OLI grew out of
collaboration among cognitive scientists, experts in human computer interaction and
seasoned faculty who have both a deep expertise in their respective fields and a strong
commitment to excellence in higher education. The project adds to online education the
crucial elements of instructional design grounded in cognitive theory, formative evaluation
for students and faculty, and iterative course improvement based on empirical evidence.
OLI courses include a number of innovative online instructional components such as
cognitive tutors, virtual laboratories, group experiments and simulations.
World Lecture Hall
World Lecture Hall publishes links to pages created by faculty worldwide who are using
the Web to deliver course materials in any language. Some courses are delivered entirely
over the Internet. Others are designed for students in residence. Many fall somewhere
in between. In all cases, they can be visited by anyone interested in courseware on the
Internet — faculty, developers, and curious students alike.
National Repository of Online Courses (NROC)
A growing library of high-quality online courses for students and faculty in higher education,
high school and Advanced Placement©. This project, supported by The William and Flora
Hewlett Foundation, facilitates collaboration among a community of content developers to
reach students and teachers worldwide.
Sofia (Sharing of Free Intellectual Assets)
The Sofia project is an open content initiative launched by the Foothill - De Anza Community
College District which promotes faculty and institutional sharing of online content. Sofia
encourages the free exchange of community college-level materials on the World Wide Web.
It is our hope that Sofia will lead to the exploration of ways of supporting instruction and
student learning using web-based resources.
WebCT e-packs
Fast, easy, and flexible way to deliver high-quality, media-rich online content. WebCT e-packs
consist of publisher-created digital content that is ready to use in WebCT. Digital content may
include question database with varied question types, interactive games, audio flashcards,
video animations, simulations and virtual environments, audio and visual demonstrations,
critical thinking exercises or activities, modular content design, discussion/debate groups.
MERLOT
MERLOT is a free and open resource designed primarily for faculty and students in higher
education. With a continually growing collection of online learning materials, and assignments
and reviews, MERLOT helps faculty enhance instruction. MERLOT is also a community of people
who strive to enrich teaching and learning experiences.
Wisc-Online Wisconsin Online Resource Center
The Wisconsin Online Resource Center is a digital library of Web-based learning resources
of learning objects. The digital library of objects has been developed primarily by faculty
from the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) and produced by multimedia
technicians who create the learning objects for the online environment. The Wisc-Online
digital library contains 1,914 objects that are accessible to all WTCS faculty at no cost
and with copyright clearance for use in any WTCS classroom or online application. Other
colleges, universities, and consortia from throughout the United States and around the
world use the library with permission.
Connexions
Connexions is an environment for collaboratively developing, freely sharing, and rapidly
publishing scholarly content on the Web. The Content Commons contains educational
materials for everyone — from children to college students to professionals — organized
in small modules that are easily connected into larger courses. All content is free to use
and reuse.
Harvard University Library Open Collections Program (OCP)
The goal of the Open Collections Program (OCP) of Harvard University Library is to increase
the availability of digital historical resources from Harvard's library and museum collections
for purposes of teaching, learning, and research.
Annenberg Media Telecourses and Simulcast
Annenberg Media uses media and telecommunications to advance excellent teaching in
American schools with broad distribution of educational video programs with coordinated
Web and print materials. Annenberg Media's multimedia resources help teachers increase
their expertise in their fields and assist them in improving their teaching methods, intended
for students in the classroom and viewers at home.
The Open Video Project
The purpose of the Open Video Project is to collect and make available a distributed
repository of digitized video content on a wide range of subjects for the digital video,
multimedia retrieval, digital library, and other research communities.
University Channel
The University Channel makes videos of academic lectures and events from all over the world
available to the public. It is a place where academics can air their ideas and present research
in a full-length, uncut format. The channel focuses on public and international affairs, because
this is an area which lends itself most naturally to a many-sided discussion.
Netlibrary
NetLibrary provides access to your library’s eContent collection. eContent is the digital version
