Sample Letter

Dear Online Student,

CCBC is dedicated to helping each student meet his or her academic goals.

I am writing you today as part of the CCBC Early Alert System, which is designed to make contact with students who may be experiencing academic difficulties in the beginning of a college course.

Our experience has shown that class attendance, participation, and performance in graded assignments are major elements in a student’s college success. The instructor in the following course(s) has indicated that your performance in at least one of these areas has been unsatisfactory to this point in the semester:

Online course in which you are registered

CCBC offers numerous services and professional staff dedicated to helping students to succeed in college and life. To ensure progress toward your goals, I would recommend immediately taking one or more of the following actions:

· Meet with your instructor to seek advice on how to improve your performance.

· Visit your campus Counseling and Advisement Center to discuss strategies for being successful in college.

· Visit your campus Student Success Center to seek tutoring or other academic assistance.

· Contact the Office of Records or Registration if you decide to withdraw from the course. Note the official withdraw deadline at the bottom of this letter.

I wish you success toward the realization of your goals.

Sincerely,

Dr. Cindy Peterka

Dean of Learning and Student Development

Note: The last day to withdraw from a course with a grade of “W” or to Audit is Wednesday, April 14, 2004.
