Ways You Can Contribute

The Foundation has always made helping students its primary focus. This year, we continued our extensive scholarship program, and our book fund. We also helped fund Jump Start--remedial summer courses that give students a head start on fall classes--plus the Parallel Enrollment Program, which gives high school students a chance to earn college credits.

Making brighter futures possible: 3 personal stories

Sarada Conaway, (left), displayed a talent for art in high school, then did some volunteer teaching after graduation. She liked it so much, she decided on a career as an art teacher. Sarada qualified for the Maria Jiminez Memorial Scholarship, studies at Catonsville, and hopes to enter the Maryland Institute of Art. She is also a volunteer art teacher in Baltimore City Schools.

Tanwir Admid, (center), a native of Pakistan, is one of a growing number of international students at Catonsville. With the help of a Foundation scholarship, he has begun studies that he hopes will lead to a degree in medicine. "I first thought about being a veterinarian," says Tanwir, "but I like being able to help others as a doctor." With all the exciting advances in genetics, he is also drawn to medical research.

Doreatha Jordan, (right), is a woman who won't give up. Despite a severe learning disability, she continued to pursue her dream of attending college. In 1999 she applied for, and was awarded an Alumni Scholarship. Using a computer program that converts speech into the written word, Doreatha writes newsletters, and plans to help other through programs like Welfare to Work.
