SPEAKERS BUREAU
Starting in the fall, 1999, the Labor Studies Program will coordinate speakers
for local schools, since our point of view seldom gets a full expression
in any classes. Volunteer union members will be available for presentations
on a wide range of topics in the schools. The program will be advertised to
every teacher in the state, in areas like history, civics, and social studies.
Selected videos are also available with the speakers, who are available at no
cost to the teachers or school system. Typical topics are:
- Current events—ongoing situations in bargaining
- Organizing campaigns
- New technology—what are the human consequences?
- Women and Work
- Immigrants and the Workplace
- Labor Law
- Labor History
- Labor’s Political Campaigns
- Are the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer? If so, what can
we do?
Anyone interested in volunteering as a speaker, or any teacher who needs a
speaker, call Bill Barry at (410) 285-2703.
