General Education Learning Communities

LEA and LEB: Write Talk
This learning community allows you to fulfill two general education requirements - one in English and one in Humanities. Sharpen your communication skills within a supportive community of learners and explore a common theme through writing, research, discussion, and oral presentations.

LEC: Writing Without a Freudian Slip

This learning community allows you to fulfill two general education requirements—one in English and the other in Social Sciences. The contents of both courses are integrated so that the writing skills taught in English 101 help the members of the learning community to be successful in Psychology 101 and the subject matter of the Psychology 101 class enriches the content of the papers in English 101.

ESOL Learning Communities

LEE and LEF: Communicating Well in Writing and Speaking
Improve two important skills by taking ESOL 052 and Speech 101, and at the same time satisfy a general education requirement. This learning community also allows you to improve your reading skills and to gain transfer credits in Speech 101.

LEG: Culture Shock: Reading and Understanding the Mysteries of Society
ESOL 054 (94826) and SOCL 101 (94867)
This learning community allows ESOL students to apply reading strategies learned in ESOL 054 to Sociology 101 as they develop an academic and personal understanding of how society works. Sociology 101 will allow ESOL students to gain transfer credits and to meet a General Education requirement during their last semester in the ESOL program.

Honors Learning Community

LEK and LEL: Freud, Reading, and Analysis
This learning community allows you to improve your reading ability while you fulfill a general education requirement in the Social Sciences. Your reading instructor will use several resources, including your psychology textbook to help you develop your reading and study skills. In addition, you will meet with a Master Learner in a one-hour seminar each week. This seminar will not only help you to be a more successful student, but it will also satisfy the SDEV 101 requirement that applies to all Reading 052 courses.

Your reading instructor will use your health textbook to help you develop your reading and study skills. In addition, you will meet with a Master Learner in a one-hour seminar each week. This seminar will not only help you to be a more successful student, but it will also satisfy the SDEV 101 requirement that applies to all Reading 052 courses.

LEN: Adding Diversity to Your Reading

This learning community allows you to improve your reading ability while you fulfill the diversity general education requirement in the Social Sciences. Your reading instructor will use your African American History textbook(s) to help you develop your reading and study skills. In addition, you will meet with a Master Learner in a one-hour seminar each week. This seminar will not only help you to be a more successful student, but it will also satisfy the SDEV 101 requirement that applies to all Reading 052 courses.

LEO: Computing Your Reading Success

In this learning community you will have the opportunity to apply reading study skills to an intensive computer course, CINS 101, while simultaneously satisfying the developmental reading requirement. You will be able to incorporate concepts learned in Reading 052 and apply them to courses in computer science as well as increase your independence and self efficacy. The linking of these two courses will have a positive outcome on your interaction with technology as well as your ability to understand the focus and purpose of the text.
