There are many resources through the library and the Internet to do your research. Here are just a few suggestions:

Books: Top
The topics on Africa and colonization are in the DT section, on different cultures including the Igbo tribe are in GN section, information on the author and criticism of the book are in the literature P section of the library.
Do a subject search using the CCBC Dundalk Library Catalog to find books on your era or theme. Use the index or table of contents in the books to narrow your search. (Hint- Start with a subject search on your topic,ex: Africa colonization. If you can't find anything on your topic, try a keyword search.)

  • Use the List of all Databases by Subject to find magazine, journals, & newspapers and reference articles on your topic.
  • Follow the instructions for off-campus access.
  • The Literature Databases will have information on your author and criticism of your work.
  • The best databases for your research on Igbo tribe would be in the Diversity Gender and Ethnic Studies Databases
  • Historical Information on slavery and the African colonization would be in History and Social Science Database
  • Some specific Databases are:
    Ethnic News Watch- current & historical topics from newspapers, magazines & journals of the ethnic, minority & native press
    History Resource Center - World articles,primary sources,with research materials for the study of world history.
  • For other magazine and journal articles try the General Interest Periodical Databases such as: Proquest Research, Academic Search in EBSCO, SIRS, CQ Researcher and Opposing Viewpoint .
  • Click on Databases by Subject to find periodical articles on different subject areas.
  • Search Tips for Databases - Remember to try different search words to find information. Use your particular topic (Example:"Igbo tribe"or Africa and colonization)or use broad terms.

Web Resources: Top
Use Evaluative Web Guides , such as Librarian's Index to the Internet ,and Subject Directories to find web sites on your era or theme. They will give you links to more specific information.
Use Search Engines, such as Google or Meta Search Engines, such as Clusty to focus your search for web sites. To get better results connect your terms with the Boolean term "and" (ex: Africa and colonization) or put quotes around a phrase (ex:"Igbo tribe".)
