LIBRARY INSTRUCTION CLASSES, WORKSHOPS,
CONSULTATIONS
Goal of Library Instruction: The purpose of library
instruction is to teach individuals the concepts of accessing and
evaluating information through the wide range of resources and
technologies available to them. Library instruction programs include:
classes related to course assignments, workshops on the databases and
Internet and individual consultations(TRAP.) Students will learn to
gather information in all formats and using critical thinking decide on
the most effective way to use this information. The ultimate goal is to
foster individuals to be "information literate." An "information
literate" person is described as "one who can recognize when information
is needed and has the ability to locate, evaluate and effectively use
the needed information.... They are people prepared for life long
learning, because they can always find the information needed for any
task or decision at hand."

LIBRARY INSTRUCTION PROGRAMS:
Class Library
(Bibliographic) Instruction: Combines concepts of information
skills, search strategy and resources (printed & computerized)
related to course assignments. Resource-based
learning teaches students to gather, analyze, interpret, and
evaluate the material and information they've selected to use for
their project or assignment. Besides the term paper faculty could
consider alternative assignments to help
students acquire these information skills. Please call Sharon Casey
at 285-9644 to schedule your class and discuss your students'
information skill needs. Please give us at least two weeks notice to
schedule your class.

Faculty are encouraged to put their course assignments with
suggested resources and selected links on the
Class Assignments web page. Contact Sharon Casey at 285-9644
