Library Class Instruction

    Library Instruction for Class:
    • Library Instruction: Combines concepts of information skills, search strategy and resources (printed & computerized) related to course assignments. It teaches students to gather, analyze, interpret, and evaluate the material and information they've selected.
    • Please call or email Sharon Casey at 410-285-9644, scasey@ccbcmd.edu to schedule your class and discuss your students' information skill needs. Please give us at least two weeks notice to schedule your class.
    • To foster experiential learning we teach in a lab that has recently been reconfigured. It includes 24 computers, 2 network printers and a scanner.
    • Faculty are encouraged to have a Library Class Assignment web page. The librarian will develop a library web page for your class with suggested resources and selected web link.

  • Goal of Library Instruction:
The purpose of library instruction is to teach individuals the concepts of accessing and evaluating information through the wide range of resources and technologies available to them. Library instruction programs include: classes related to course assignments, workshops on the databases and Internet and individual consultations(TRAP.) Students will learn to gather information in all formats and using critical thinking decide on the most effective way to use this information. The ultimate goal is to foster individuals to be "information literate." An "information literate" person is described as "one who can recognize when information is needed and has the ability to locate, evaluate and effectively use the needed information.... They are people prepared for life long learning, because they can always find the information needed for any task or decision at hand."
