LIBRARY MISSION AND GOALS
Mission of CCBC
The Community Colleges of Baltimore County (CCBC) is a system of three public
colleges that anticipate and respond to the educational , training and employment
needs of Baltimore County and the region. Together, the colleges offer a broad
array of transfer and career programs and services, including basic skills instruction,
general education, arts and science courses, career education, employment skills
training, student and community services, and economic development activities.
We invite our diverse community to pursue lifelong learning with us in a world
of rapid societal and technological change. We commit to the optimal use of
available resources in a responsive and responsible manner. We join with our
community to improve the quality of life, provide opportunities for personal
enrichment, and enhance our economic, social and natural environment.
CCBC Goals for which the Libraries Provide Focused Support
- Prepare students to make informed and independent judgments in their pursuit
of further education and in their roles in the workforce and in the community
by broadening their intellectual horizons and deepening their understanding
of themselves and their environment.
- Improve student success with high quality learning support services
- Ensure maximum access to educational programs and services through flexible
scheduling, affordable cost and use of current and developing technology.
- Increase access to and make optimal use of technology for students, faculty
and staff.
The CCBC Libraries Support the CCBC Mission and Goals by

learners, able to locate information and use it effectively in all aspects
of their lives;
- providing programs and services planned, in consultation with our colleges
communities, to be responsive to the individualized needs of our diverse population,
and to be the best possible given available resources;
- acquiring, maintaining, and providing access to collections which support
the curricula with up-to-date information in a wide variety of formats, and
with a broad range of viewpoints;
- developing, utilizing and maintaining information technology systems to
enhance access to the dissemination of information and serve as the colleges'
gateway to global information resources;
- creating an awareness of the integral role of libraries in education, including
helping faculty use library and media materials and new technologies in their
teaching; and
- forming cooperative relationships to share resources and to enhance access.
