CCBC Essex Administration Building Construction Complete – Almost

After more than four years of asbestos abatement and subsequent renovations, the Administration Building at CCBC Essex reopened to faculty, staff and students sans fanfare this fall. During the first week of classes workmen and movers vied with students, faculty and staff for room in the halls and elevator.

Due to extensive work still being done on the outside of the building, many students were unsure if their classes had actually been relocated to the “A” Building. In fact, when directed to their classes in the “A” building during First Week Essex, most students countered with, “Are you sure the building is open?”

The newly refurbished facility now houses the new School of Nursing and Allied Health Professions, occupying the entire third floor. The area features faculty and staff office space, departmental laboratories for Nursing, Massage Therapy and Radiation Therapy, and classrooms for a host of Nursing and Allied Health courses.

The School of Applied and Information Technology’s Multimedia Technology and E-Business programs share space with the Math/Science division on the second floor. This space has several large “smart” classrooms and computer laboratories as well as faculty offices and conference space.

The first floor, which is still only partially completed, will eventually house administrative offices including the President’s office, Institutional Advancement (Foundation, Alumni Services, Media Relations, and Marketing), Performing Arts, Academic Services (lead campus administrator and staff), Institutional Research, Travel Studies, the Honors Program and the School of Allied Health Professions’ Selective Admissions office.

The board room and a 250-seat lecture hall (still under renovation) are also located on the first floor. The oldest structure on campus, the Administration Building was constructed in 1967.
