CCBC Catonsville Prepares to "Jazz Up" the Curriculum with New Program
CCBC Catonsville is planning to add a unique curriculum to its Music program -- Jazz Education. Scheduled to begin in Fall 2003, this is believed to be the only program of its kind among community colleges.

'Victor Williams and True Spirit' Bring Jazz to CCBC Dundalk
Victor Williams and True Spirit, a widely acclaimed - and perpetually changing - group of talented studio musicians, will present an "Evening of Jazz" in a benefit concert 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23 at CCBC Dundalk.

Human Resources Goes High Tech with Recruiting
CCBC's Human Resources Department is taking a technology leap with the launching of a new job posting and employment Web site. Developed in partnership with PeopleAdmin.com, this integrated, all-inclusive employment site helps facilitate and automate many of the paper-driven aspects of the recruitment, employment application and hiring process.

Grant Helps CCBC Develop Community College in Albania
CCBC Catonsville's Office of International Education is helping to develop a new community college in Albania through a partnership with the Harry T. Fultz Technical School Foundation.

Public Safety Wins Seat Belt Usage Award
Enforcing seat belt usage on all three CCBC campuses, as part of the 2002 Maryland Chiefs' Challenge, resulted in an award given to CCBC Essex for its outstanding compliance rates on a pacesetters seat belt survey.

Pool Reopening Makes a Big Splash
Maryland may still be in the midst of a regional drought, but the dry spell at the CCBC Dundalk swimming pool is over. Closed for a three-month renovation project, the pool is now open and being used by CCBC students as well as community organizations, senior citizen groups, local schools and Recreation and Parks classes.

New Course Will Ease ESOL Students' Quest for GED
The English For Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and GED areas of the Center for Adult and Family Literacy (CAFL) are collaborating to introduce a new class to CCBC.

Bull Roast to Benefit CCBC Dundalk Scholarship Fund
Good food and lots of it will be on the table at a bull roast and shrimp feast sponsored by the Dundalk Community College Foundation, Inc., 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9. Proceeds benefit the Marie Lloyd/Ed Lamon Scholarship Fund, which awards up to $1,000 per semester to graduating high school seniors or current union members who are eligible to attend CCBC Dundalk.

Auction 2002 Benefits CCBC Dundalk Horticulture Program
More than 200 gardening enthusiasts crowded the Conference Center at Sheppard Pratt in early October for the chance to bid on rare and choice trees and shrubs at Auction 2002, presented by the Horticultural Society of Maryland.

Office of Student Life Plans Trip to London
CCBC Catonsville's Office of Student Life is sponsoring a trip to southern England Sunday, April 13 through Sunday, April 20, 2003.

Hancock Plays it Safe as New Director of Environmental Compliance
Don't let the kind smile and easygoing Texas drawl fool you. Ken Hancock is all business when it comes to matters of individual, institutional and environmental safety. With more than 25 years experience in the areas of corporate and plant safety and industrial hygiene, Hancock hit the ground running when he arrived at CCBC in July to become the college's first director of Environmental Compliance.

As special guest at CCBC Dundalk's September Tea at Three, Dr. May Chen, CCBC assistant vice chancellor for Strategic Enrollment Management, explained the series of career, educational and personal twists and turns that led her from China to Baltimore - by way of Iowa, New Jersey and California.

Physician Assistant Program Gives Students International Experience
The CCBC Essex/Towson University Physician Assistant program gave four physician assistant students an experience of a lifetime. During the months of August and September, CCBC Essex students Gavin Snyder, Caroline Scheiber, Stephanie Singer and Liz Shultheis completed a community medicine, cross-cultural elective rotation in Belize.
