CCBC professors put caring and sharing into action

As long as there are people without food or shelter – as the result of a natural disaster like Hurricane Isabel or just due to unfortunate life circumstances – CCBC Professors Jonathan and Betsey Collins will feel compelled to lend a helping hand.

More than a year ago, the couple formed the non-profit organization Caring and Sharing for the Homeless, Inc., providing clothes, toys and food for such organizations as the Grace and Hope Mission, Baltimore Rescue Mission, the Karris House, Catholic Charities and the House of Ruth. In just a year’s time, Collins’ colleagues at CCBC have donated more than $30,000 in cash and goods to this charitable effort.

The couple recently delivered a truckload of food to the pantry of the Career Center at Joseph C. Briscoe High School, maintained by the Center for Poverty Solutions, a statewide non-profit organization focused on the eradication of poverty. The Center then distributed the food to area families who were affected by Hurricane Isabel.
