‘Meet and Greet Gena Proulx’ event
attracts more than 100 faculty and staff

It might have been her mother’s birthday, but on Oct. 3 this year Gena Proulx was the guest of honor at a festive noontime reception. Co-hosted by the Dundalk and Essex campuses in the new boardroom at CCBC Essex, the event drew faculty and staff from all three campuses. Special guests included Proulx’s mother, Irene Roinick, her husband, William Proulx and her uncle, William Carroll.

Proulx was officially named president of both campuses at CCBC’s September Board of Trustees meeting and the reception gave members of the college community an opportunity to meet Proulx and congratulate her on her appointment.

Music by Bill Watson, flowers by the CCBC Dundalk Floral Design/Horticulture program and catering by J. O. Ward set the mood for the celebratory event. A short program featured remarks by Henry Linck, CCBC vice chancellor for Learning and Student Development, Carol Eustis, dean of the School of Health Professions, and Barney Wilson, campus administrator for CCBC Dundalk.

A highlight of the program was the presentation of small gifts from both campuses for Proulx and her family, after which a number of speakers praised Proulx for her leadership style and ability. “She has been my mentor,” Wilson shared with the group. “She always is thinking of the students and how we can better serve them. She knows everybody’s name and story on the Dundalk campus. She is always there to support us.”

After thanking the group for the gifts, Proulx delivered remarks that set the tone for her tenure as president of both campuses. She posed the question that she felt was on some people’s minds: Can she do it [serve effectively as president of both campuses]? Her answer: “No, but we can do it as a team.” With this, she served notice that she would become as familiar with all of the CCBC Essex faculty and staff as she is with those on the Dundalk campus.

Her family’s pride and enjoyment were evident throughout the reception. “I’ll be happy to celebrate my birthday like this every year,” said Roinick.
