It’s a sign of the times across CCBC campuses

Any new student or visitor who’s ever circled one of CCBC’s campuses in search of a building will appreciate the changes in store for the college in coming months. After a year of planning – from reviewing proposals to deliberating over designs – CCBC campuses will be getting a “face-lift” via a new signage system. The new system will bring order and consistency to signs on campus and be more user-friendly for students and visitors as well as traveling faculty and staff.

Tall, sleek and in most cases illuminated, the signs that make up the new system include building, pedestrian, vehicular and parking lot versions. Buildings will be identified alphabetically and parking lots will be identified numerically. The new signs have a contemporary look – a characteristic desired by students who expressed their opinions in individual interviews as well as informal focus groups.

With the names of some buildings and parking lots changing throughout CCBC, members of the college community will need to make a concentrated effort to correctly identify new building designations in their communication with students and visitors. The InnerLoop will post copies of new campus maps and legends, and brochures will be distributed to faculty and staff as well as placed in key areas around campus.

“When it came to making a decision on the signage, we tried to look at everything from a student’s perspective,” said Jodi Ceglia, publications manager and member of the signage committee. “We wanted to make sure that the signs were easy to read and that the organization and naming of buildings were orderly and made sense. I think the college community will find the new signs refreshing,” she added.

Members of the Signage Committee included representatives from Plant Operations, Public Relations and members of the Chancellor’s Cabinet.

Efforts to remove the old and put up the new signs begin in mid-November. Installation of the new signage should be completed by the start of the winter semester.
