CCBC establishes partnership with community college in
St. Lucia
As a result of a summer visit by CCBC staff, administrators and faculty
members, the college has initiated several projects with
Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC), located on the Caribbean
island of St. Lucia, one of the windward islands of the Lesser Antilles.
“The purpose of the visit was to explore opportunities for the two
colleges to collaborate on projects such as student/faculty exchanges
and other areas of mutual benefit,” said Avon Garrett, dean of Business,
Social Sciences, Wellness and Education. “Many tangible programs are on
the horizon.”
CCBC administrators met with officials from SALCC’s Registrar’s office,
the department of Health Services, Technology Education, and Business
and Hospitality Management. A faculty/student exchange program is in the
planning stages.
Currently, CCBC is collecting textbooks and supporting materials to ship
to Sir Arthur Lewis Community College for use in its library and to
supplement teaching materials. “From our visit, we saw that they had a
need for more updated textbooks,” Garrett said.
Sir Arthur Lewis Community College has a current enrollment of 1,500
full-time students and nearly 500 part-time students, with 130 full-time
faculty members.
