Veteran Faculty Orient New Faculty to Learning-Centered Practices

New faculty now have an immediate connection to their seasoned colleagues and the learning-centered principles that drive CCBC. A new program titled "CCBC Learning Community for New Faculty" pairs veteran faculty with new faculty and introduces the college's learning-centered philosophy and practices.

An all-day orientation just prior to the start of the fall semester initiated new faculty into this program. Participants were assigned to mentors and explored LearningFirst topics such as the common course outline and the learning syllabus.

"Welcoming new faculty to CCBC is what this program is all about," said Tara Ebersole, coordinator of the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence at CCBC Catonsville and organizer of the CCBC Learning Community for New Faculty. "We want to help them transition into their positions and make the most of their teaching experience here at CCBC."

To further orient new faculty to the "learning college" way of life at CCBC, participants will be invited to join in a variety of special activities throughout the academic year. They will have opportunities to explore topics such as brain-based learning, information literacy, distance learning/online courses and telecourses, counseling/advising, student policies, student activities and the student success center, shared governance/organizational connections, students with disabilities, multicultural affairs and diversity issues, and enrollment management.

New faculty enrolled in the program include Brooke Bognanni (Essex), Stephanie Briggs (Catonsville), Charlyn Cassady (Essex), James Cutrone (Essex), James Floyd (Catonsville), Christopher Justice (Catonsville), Jennifer M. Kilbourne (Dundalk), Ji-Hyun Kim (Catonsville), Samir Latif (Catonsville), Donald P.
