CCBC Experiences Significant Enrollment Growth

Enrollment figures for CCBC continue to rise with the latest credit enrollment report showing a 12 percent increase over a three-year period. This news comes on the heels of a Maryland Higher Education Commission report that stated that more Marylanders are enrolling in college.

The CCBC enrollment report made a three-year comparison tracking enrollment growth of credit students from fiscal years 2000 through 2002. Each academic session since summer 2000, excluding a slight drop in the winter session of 2001 (five percent), CCBC experienced substantial enrollment growth. Overall, there were credit student enrollment increases of eight percent in the fall, six percent in the winter, 18 percent in the spring and 16 percent in the summer over the three-year period.

Credit enrollment growth was noted not only college-wide, but per individual campus as well during this same time period. CCBC Catonsville experienced seven percent growth, CCBC Dundalk experienced 14 percent growth and CCBC Essex experienced 19 percent growth.

"We're pleased with the increased enrollment numbers," said Dr. May Chen, assistant vice chancellor for Strategic and Enrollment Management. "National trends indicate that during economic downturn, more students enroll in community colleges part-time taking non-credit and/or career related courses. However, CCBC has also been celebrating enrollment growth in full-time, credit programs as well and that's significant."

Chen attributes much of the enrollment increases to the hard work and commitment of CCBC's Enrollment Management team in collaboration with other faculty and staff. "We are constantly looking for new ways to attract more students," said Chen. "I'm pleased to see that our initiatives are paying off and students are choosing to enroll at CCBC."
