Command Spanish Comes to CCBC

¡Hola! There's a new program on the Continuing Education and Economic Development roster. It's Command Spanish, a new course that can deliver profession-specific survival Spanish tailored to an occupation or service industry. Joe Schatz is the coordinator of the program that is just getting off the ground.

"The need for occupational Spanish is very obvious," Schatz said. "In the construction field, for instance, the hiring of so many Spanish-speaking workers makes it necessary to be able to communicate with them in regard to their specific job. While a supervisor may not be fluent in the language, Command Spanish will give that person the verbal tools they need to give directions to their workers."

Command Spanish is the country's leading provider of occupational Spanish language programs and has a curriculum specifically designed to meet the needs of over 25 different occupations and professions - including education. At CCBC it can be delivered for credit or non-credit. The system incorporates non-grammar based materials, work-specific language, materials designed for adult learners, short periods of study and generic Spanish understood by all Spanish speakers. In addition, intercultural information is shared so that the cultural communication is addressed as well.
