Rare Tree Auction to Benefit CCBC Dundalk Horticulture Scholarship
Fund
The Horticultural Society of Maryland, Inc. is sponsoring Auction 2002,
an auction of rare and choice trees and shrubs, on Friday, Oct. 4, 2002
from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Conference Center at Sheppard Pratt, 6501 N.
Charles Street in Towson, Md. Proceeds from both live and silent
auctions will benefit the Society's endowed scholarship fund for
Horticulture program students at CCBC Dundalk as well as other
Society-sponsored educational programs.
This woody plant auction offers for sale choice, hard-to-find and rare
trees and shrubs from Baltimore area nurseries, the CCBC Dundalk
Horticulture program, and nurseries as far away as Connecticut and North
Carolina. Live auction plants for sale are of major size, from four to
six feet tall, in five- to 25-gallon containers. Highlights of the live
auction, to be conducted by Ann von Forthuber, include Cercidiphyllum
japonicum "Pendula," Stewartia pseudocamillia, Chionanthus retuses,
Weeping Beech and Full Moon Maple. Silent auction items feature planted
containers and smaller woody plants.
Tickets are $35 each and include admission to the live and silent
auctions as well as a light supper with wine and beer. The supper, a
plant preview and the silent auction will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:15
p.m.; the live auction will commence at 7:30 p.m. Winning bidders should
be prepared to remove all plant items following the auction. Delivery
services may be arranged for an additional fee. Maryland sales tax
applies to all purchases; cash and checks only will be accepted.
