Rare Tree Auction to Benefit CCBC Dundalk Horticulture Scholarship Fund

The Horticultural Society of Maryland, Inc. is sponsoring Auction 2002, an auction of rare and choice trees and shrubs, on Friday, Oct. 4, 2002 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Conference Center at Sheppard Pratt, 6501 N. Charles Street in Towson, Md. Proceeds from both live and silent auctions will benefit the Society's endowed scholarship fund for Horticulture program students at CCBC Dundalk as well as other Society-sponsored educational programs.

This woody plant auction offers for sale choice, hard-to-find and rare trees and shrubs from Baltimore area nurseries, the CCBC Dundalk Horticulture program, and nurseries as far away as Connecticut and North Carolina. Live auction plants for sale are of major size, from four to six feet tall, in five- to 25-gallon containers. Highlights of the live auction, to be conducted by Ann von Forthuber, include Cercidiphyllum japonicum "Pendula," Stewartia pseudocamillia, Chionanthus retuses, Weeping Beech and Full Moon Maple. Silent auction items feature planted containers and smaller woody plants.

Tickets are $35 each and include admission to the live and silent auctions as well as a light supper with wine and beer. The supper, a plant preview and the silent auction will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.; the live auction will commence at 7:30 p.m. Winning bidders should be prepared to remove all plant items following the auction. Delivery services may be arranged for an additional fee. Maryland sales tax applies to all purchases; cash and checks only will be accepted.
