CCBC Selects Cassady for 'Teacher of the Year' award sponsored by
Essex-Middle River-White Marsh Chamber of Commerce

Baltimore, Md. – The Community College of Baltimore County has named Charlyn Cassady (assistant coordinator, Reading) as its “Teacher of the Year” for an award sponsored by the Essex-Middle River-White Marsh Chamber of Commerce. Cassady will be honored at the 60th Annual Awards and Installation Dinner for the Essex-Middle River-White Marsh Chamber of Commerce on Friday, Jan. 11, 2008. Each year the Chamber honors representatives from the business, education and political sector for their support in the Essex-Middle River-White Marsh community.

Cassady, who lives in the Essex/Middle River community, has taught at CCBC for over five years and has demonstrated true classroom leadership. Cassady holds a B.S.N. from University of Maryland, an M.Ed. from Loyola College of Maryland, and a Ph.D. from University of Maryland. She is a dynamic teacher who is involved with numerous extra-curricular activities in various areas of the college and is highly respected by both her colleagues and her students. In addition, she is passionate about teaching and learning and truly enjoys being in the classroom. Beginning her academic career at her local community college, Cassady understands her students’ concerns and is committed to her students’ success on every level, both in and out of the classroom.

Faculty were nominated based on the following criteria:

• Five or more years of service to education
• Outstanding classroom leadership
• Involved in extra-curricular activities and after-school events
• Respected by his/her colleagues and the student body
• Enjoys education and the role of the classroom teacher
• Positive role model for students

The Chamber’s education committee strives to impact education in their community. The committee continues to evaluate new and exciting ways to help bring about a sense of harmony with business and education.
