Based on Roald Dahl’s timeless “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” with words and music by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley, “Willy Wonka, Jr.” focuses on a world-famous candy maker’s quest to find an heir. More than 50 young performers bring this story to life on the CCBC stage under the co-direction of Diane Smith and Amanda Dickson.
Young Charlie Bucket (Bradley Bowers of Guildford) escapes the dreariness of his everyday life though his imagination, fueled by his beloved Grandpa Joe (Tim Flaharty of Abingdon). When the famous and reclusive candy maker, Willy Wonka (Casey Kolb of Parkton) announces that five children will win a dream-fulfilling tour of his candy factory by finding the five golden tickets in Wonka candy bars, Charlie is caught up in the chase.
Children from around the world find the golden tickets including the gluttonous August Gloop (Zachary Miller of Baltimore), the spoiled Veruca Salt (Brianna Dregier of Abingdon), the gum chewer extraordinaire Violet Beauregarde (Nicole Smith of Lutherville) and media-addicted Mike Teavee (Mike Delaney of Parkville). When the fifth ticket falls into Charlie’s hands, he embarks on an adventure that will change his life and the lives of his entire family.
The J building Theatre is accessible and patrons are urged to inform the box office in advance if special seating accommodations are needed. For tickets and information, call the CCBC Box Office at 443-840-1369.
