Best-selling author Michael Eric Dyson lectures at CCBC Catonsville March 20 Dyson discusses 'Living in a Post-Katrina Era: What Now and What Next?'
Baltimore, Md. – The Community College of Baltimore County welcomes best-selling author Michael Eric Dyson to its Catonsville campus 12 – 1 p.m., Thursday, March 20 in the Q Theater. Dyson, who has written several books including Come Hell or High Water, a controversial book on the political and racial fallout from Hurricane Katrina, will lecture on the topic “Living in a Post-Katrina Era: What Now and What Next?” A book signing will immediately follow the lecture.
Dyson, a Georgetown University professor of Theology, English and African Studies, is known as one of the nation’s most renowned public intellectuals. Essence magazine recognized him among its “40 most inspiring African-Americans” and Ebony magazine listed him as one of the 100 most influential Black Americans.
A two-time winner of the prestigious NAACP Image Award, Dyson is frequently seen on the national media circuit including appearances on the Today Show, Nightline, the Tavis Smiley Show and Real Time with Bill Maher. He has also appeared on MTV’s Rap City, BET’s Hip-Hop vs America and HBO’s Def Poetry Jam.
Additionally, Dyson’s appearance is associated with CCBC’s Community Book Connection, a year-long initiative where students across the disciplines are urged to read a specific book and faculty are encouraged to include it in their courses. This year’s book is Dyson’s Come Hell or High Water. A series of cultural and academic activities have been organized throughout the year to support this initiative.
Sponsored by the Offices of Student Life and Multicultural Affairs, this event is free but an admission ticket is required. To acquire a ticket call the CCBC Box Office at 410-780-6369. For additional information about the lecture, call 410-455-4322.
