CCBC English Department hosts spring Literary Hour Actor Hilary Kacser portrays 'Rose' in 'The Pursuit of the English,' a dramatization of a Doris Lessing memoir
Baltimore County, Md. – The English Department in the Community College of Baltimore County’s School of Liberal Arts will present its annual spring Literary Hour, 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, April 9 in the J Building Lecture Hall (J-137) at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Boulevard.
This year’s program, In Pursuit of the English: Rose, is a dramatization of 2007 Nobel Prizewinner Doris Lessing’s memoirs about post-World War II London. Washington D.C. actor Hilary Kacser gives a one-woman performance as “Rose,” a survivor the London Blitz. Kacser’s portrayal uses humor to explore the theme of survival in the face of disaster.
CCBC English Professor Linda Weinhouse, a member of the Doris Lessing Society and editor of Doris Lessing Studies, will give an introduction on the acclaimed writer. Lessing’s work delves into war, inequality and women’s issues that are still very relevant in today’s world. Her book, In Pursuit of the English, published in 1960, chronicles the phase of her life from her departure from South Africa to her early years in England.
For additional information, call Dr. Weinhouse at 410-780-6537.
Free and open to the public.
