CCBC Catonsville’s Educational Talent Search gears up for summer
Program seeking students for 2008 sessions

Baltimore County, Md. – In preparation for its 2008 summer sessions, Educational Talent Search (ETS), a year-round program at the Community College of Baltimore County, Catonsville, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, will hold orientation for interested students and parents 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, in Room K-100. The deadline for registration is June 13, 2008.

In order to qualify for ETS, students must be 11 to 27 years of age and attend one of the following schools: Southwest Academy, Lansdowne Middle School, Woodlawn Middle School, Milford Mill Academy, Lansdowne High School or Woodlawn High School. Students must reside with parent/guardian(s) who have not earned a baccalaureate degree and be members of families that meet federal family income guidelines. The program will participate in the Summer Food Service program funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

This summer, three separate programs will be offered to accommodate qualifying students in grades six and seven; eight and nine; and 10 and 11 who possess the potential to pursue a college education. Starting in July and ending in August, sessions will cover topics ranging from journaling to conflict management. Additionally, SAT review and practice will be provided for 10th and 11th grade students.

The goal of Educational Talent Search is to increase participants’ motivation and academic skills to facilitate their graduation from high school and successful entry and graduation from college.
