CCBC Catonsville Women’s Lacrosse team wins NJCAA Championship

Baltimore, Md. – The Community College of Baltimore County, Catonsville women’s lacrosse team won another NJCAA championship after defeating Harford Community College, 13 – 6, on May 10. The Lady Cardinals completed their season with a perfect 15 – 0 record, capturing their third NJCAA championship in five years and their sixth overall national championship.

Coach Tom Taylor (Glen Burnie, Md.) was named “Coach of the Tournament” as well as District B “Coach of the Year” and four Lady Cardinals were named to the All-Tournament Team: Kelly Viens (Millersville, Md. ); Courtney Berger (White Hall, Md. ); Emilie Melka (Baltimore, Md.); and Kyle Evans (Woodbine, Md. ) Jessica Baublitz (Baltimore, Md.), a sophomore midfielder, was named the “Offensive Player of the Tournament” and Shameka Gordon (Bronx, NY), a freshman defender, was selected the “Defensive Player of the Tournament.”

“We’re extremely proud of the successes of our women’s lacrosse team,” said Brian Farrell, CCBC director of Athletics. “Our young ladies are very competitive and are among the best in the sport. We take pride in their accomplishments both on and off the field.”
