CCBC School of Health Professions honors 368 students during
fourth annual Student Recognition Ceremony

Baltimore County, Md. – More than 1,000 faculty members, administrators, staff, students, family members and dignitaries attended the Community College of Baltimore County School of Health Professions’ Fourth Annual Student Recognition Ceremony held Friday, May 23, on the Essex campus. CCBC President Sandra L. Kurtinitis gave welcoming remarks and introduced Congressman John P. Sarbanes (Maryland’s Third Congressional District), who delivered the keynote address. Each student received a certificate of recognition from School of Health Professions Dean Carol Eustis.

The event recognized the achievements of the 368 students completing their SHP certificate /degree programs in 12 health-related areas: Emergency Medical Technology (22); Massage Therapy (17); Mental Health Practitioner (11); Mortuary Science (21); Occupational Therapy Assistant (15); Physician Assistant (25); Practical Nursing (27); Radiation Therapy (15); Radiography (19); Respiratory Care Therapy (12); Nursing (169) and Veterinary Technology (15).

A highlight of the ceremony is the announcement of the outstanding student (OS) in each program as well as the induction of those with 3.5 GPA into Alpha Eta Society (AE), the honor society for Allied Health students, and Pi Alpha (PA) National Honor Society for Physician Assistant students and graduates.

This year’s awardees for those honors are: Nikhilesh Ray-Mazumder of Baltimore, Md. – OS and AE (Emergency Medical Technology); Edmond Goode of Baltimore, Md.- OS and AE and Judith Vennes of Towson, Md. - OS (Massage Therapy); Anna Dent of Rosedale, Md.- OS and AE, Beleathea Jackson of Baltimore, Md. – OS and AE, Esther Richards of Baltimore, Md. – AE and Regina Karanja of Parkville, Md. – AE (Mental Health program); Diane Donaldson of Silver Spring, Md. – OS and AE, Mary C. Avant of Catonsville, Md. – AE, and Andrew Catlin of Towson, Md. – AE (Mortuary Science); Kurt Ruback of New Market, Md., Rosalind Zimmerman of Bel Air, Md., Melissa Kauffman of Joppa, Md. (Nursing); Christine Maxwell of Baltimore, Md. – OS and Molly Wolfe of Bel Air, Md. – AE (Occupational Therapy Assistant); Mr. Iruie Caraman of Rosedale, Jessica Reavis of Towson, Md., Laura Rose of Severn, Md. and Laure Schwartz of Rosedale – PA (Towson University-CCBC Essex Physician Assistant Program); Susan Day of Elkton, Md. (Radiation Therapy); Patrick Ruberry of Nottingham, Md., Krista Stewart of Rosedale, Md. and Brandie Stratemeyer of Essex, Md. – OS, Chantel Jackson of Joppa, Md. and Kimberly Shoul of Manchester, Md. – AE; Stacie Klima of Parkville, Md. – OS (Respiratory Care Therapist).

“In response to critical shortages in many areas of the health care work force, CCBC is proud to send 368 highly qualified health care professionals into the workplace,” remarks Dean Eustis. “CCBC is one of the largest providers of health care education in the region.”
