Mission Statement

The Writing in the Disciplines and Across the Curriculum and Communities (WID/AC) program at CCBC recognizes that globalization and recent advances in technology increase the demand for more proficient writing and communication skills in all academic disciplines, vocational programs, and the workplace. Writing, critical thinking, and lifelong learning are inextricably linked, complex processes, and the WID/AC program aims to provide a forum where the college unites to support one another by exchanging pedagogical strategies and promoting practices which emphasize both the value of writing to learn and the use of writing as an essential teaching tool. WID/AC reinforces the College’s mission statement to serve our diverse community by empowering and liberating student voices and increasing their efficacy across borders, boundaries, and worlds.

Program Goals and Objectives

  • Host Annual WID/AC "Writing Exchange" Conference
  • Promote a community of faculty and students who use writing as a tool of learning
  • Develop liaisons between WID/AC and other college committees and organizations
  • Use and promote resources to encourage the exchange of pedagogical practices and address writing concerns in partnership with all CCBC faculty and staff
  • Provide top-notch professional development opportunities through the WID/AC Consultation Services
  • Offer writing-intensive and discipline-specific writing and research courses at CCBC
  • Maintain and update the CCBC Student Guide to Writing in the Disciplines
  • Maintain and expand the Writing Fellows Training Program to develop the WID/AC program at the department and program level
  • Maintain the WID/AC Council as the representative leadership group of CCBC's Schools and major programs of study
