Admissions -- Parallel Enrollment Program

The Parallel Enrollment Program (PEP) is an opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to enroll in courses at The Community College of Baltimore County while they are still in high school.

The purpose of the program is to expand the educational opportunities available to high school students in Baltimore County and nearby areas. Students are able to choose from a variety of courses including those that meet general education requirements, career exploration objectives, and developmental review needs. For all PEP students, this academic experience is valuable for shaping and refining post-secondary educational plans.

Students may enroll at any of the three campuses or extension centers of The Community College of Baltimore County, including CCBC Catonsville, CCBC Dundalk, and CCBC Essex. It is essential that students consult with their high school counselor to determine if participation in the Parallel Enrollment Program is compatible with their high school program. Students receive college credit for completed college classes only.

How does the Parallel Enrollment Program work?

Students from area secondary schools may elect to take CCBC courses during one or more semesters during their junior and/or senior year of high school. Day, evening, and weekend classes are available at each campus during the 15-week fall and spring semesters as well as shorter winter and summer sessions.

Class choices are directed by student interests, prerequisite skill levels, and schedule constraints. The involvement of guidance counselors and parents during the enrollment process is required to ensure that a healthy balance is achieved between high school and college experiences.

A 50% tuition discount is available to participants in PEP who are:

  • a junior or senior in high school
  • a resident of Baltimore County
  • enrolled at CCBC during the fall, winter, or spring semester of student's junior or senior year OR the summer between the junior and senior year
  • enrolled in the public school system or in a nonprofit institution offering instruction at the secondary level that is operating with a Certificate of Approval issued by the Maryland State Department of Education, and
  • certified by an official of the high school as meeting all of the eligibility requirements outlined above.
