Introduction to Health Careers
Provides opportunity to examine interests in allied health careers with emphasis on programs at CCBC; includes sessions at the CCBC Essex Career Development Center, campus library, and an area hospital. Presenters from CCBC allied health programs will visit the class.
Prerequisites: RDNG 051 or ESOL 053. Corequisite: RDNG 052 or ESOL 054
ALHL 115 – 3 Credits
Medical Terminology
Studies the language of medicine including word construction, definitions, and use of words related to medical science in general; emphasizes the interpretation and translation of medical records and documents.
Prerequisites: ENGL 052 and RDNG 052 or ESOL 054
ALHL 132 – 3 Credits
Basic Nutrition
Explores current concepts of practical and applied nutrition; studies food selection, current myths and misconceptions, the relationship of nutrients to optimal health, obesity and weight control, food choices, deficiency diseases, food preparation, health foods, additives and preservatives, food poisoning, and common diseases affecting the gastrointestinal system. NOTE: Same as HLTH 132. Credit can be earned for one course only.
Prerequisites: RDNG 051 or ESOL 053
ALHL 135 – 3 Credits
Nutrition
Provides in-depth study of food groups and nutrients, including meal planning, weight control and common therapeutic diets. Designed for nursing students.
Prerequisites: CHEM 105 and BIOL 101 or BIOL 109
ALHL 155 – 3 Credits
Biomedical Ethics
Provides a forum for students and practitioners in the allied health field to explore moral and ethical issues with which they are faced in the health care milieu. NOTE: Same as PHIL 155. Credit can be earned for one course only.
Prerequisites: RDNG 052 or ESOL 054; ENGL 052; MATH 081.
