FLOR 104 – 2 Credits
Display Techniques and Practices
Covers how to plan, develop and construct a variety of displays used in the retail sales industry; examines the use and effect of lighting, the utilization of props and the basic concepts of visual merchandising.
Prerequisites: ENGL 051 (conc) or ESOL 042 (conc) and RDNG 052 (conc) or ESOL 054 (conc)

FLOR 105 – 3 Credits
Basic Floral Design
Examines the basic principles of artistic floral design, the history of floral design, color coordination, design construction techniques, and floral design nomenclature; covers the construction of basic geometric designs, corsage construction, accessory usage, container selection, the proper use and maintenance of tools of the trade, and the skills necessary to select and use quality materials in design construction.
Prerequisites: ENGL 051 (conc) or ESOL 042 (conc) and RDNG 052 (conc) or ESOL 054(conc)

FLOR 108 – 3 Credits
Sympathy Flower Design
Studies the role of sympathy flowers and the responsibility of the florist in relationship to funeral customs; covers the conducting of a funeral consultation, delivery procedures, and design coordination.
Prerequisites: MATH 081, "C" grade in FLOR 105, and FLOR 113

FLOR 109 – 3 Credits
Wedding Flower Design
Teaches the basic principles of wedding floral design; covers the construction of bridal bouquets and corsages, ceremony and reception decorations, conducting a bridal consultation, pricing bridal work, preparing materials prior to design construction, and delivering wedding flowers.
Prerequisites: "C" grade in FLOR 105, FLOR 108, and FLOR 113

FLOR 110 – 3 Credits
Dried and Silk Material Design
Expands design capabilities through the construction of various dried and silk material designs; provides students with the opportunity to realize their individual level of creativity. This course is a required course in the floristry certificate program.
Prerequisite: "C" grade in FLOR 105

FLOR 111 – 3 Credits
Advanced Design Techniques
Provides the student with the opportunity to enhance the basic skills acquired in previous floral design classes; expands students' familiarity with and execution of the principles, practices and techniques utilized to construct contemporary floral designs.
Prerequisites: "C" grade in FLOR 105, FLOR 108, and FLOR 113

FLOR 113 – 3 Credits
Floral Product Care and Handling
Covers the care, processing, packaging and storage of perishable and non-perishable materials used in floral design and ornamental gardens sold by florists; examines the identifications, availability, grading, and characteristics of the materials.
Prerequisites: ENGL 051 (conc)or ESOL 042 (conc) and RDNG 052 (conc) or ESOL 054 (conc) or consent of the program director. |
