Studies the principles and practices in the propagation of plants; covers facilities, equipment, and supplies used in propagation.

Basic Landscape Graphics
Introduces the basic principles of landscape graphic design; covers line weight and lettering techniques, graphic symbols, color rendering techniques, one and two point perspectives, techniques of landscape sketching, and an introduction to computer design landscape graphics.
Prerequisites: RDNG 051 or ESOL 044 and ENGL 051 or ESOL 042

Woody Ornamentals I
Studies the more common trees, shrubs, and vines used for landscaping purposes; emphasizes the proper identification, use, and care of woody plants.
Prerequisite: RDNG 051 or ESOL 044

Perennials and Grasses I
Studies perennials and grasses used for landscaping purposes; emphasizes the proper identification, use, and care of perennials and grasses.
Prerequisite: RDNG 052 or ESOL 054
HORT 115 – 3 Credits
Soils and Fertilizers
Explores soils and fertilizers from a management point of view; emphasis is placed on intensive horticultural practices, practical application of soil/media testing and analysis, soil structure, porosity, pH and its relationship to good cultural practices, nutrient content, and soil/media management will be explored.

HORT 117 – 3 Credits
Integrated Pest Management
Explores the common insects, diseases, and weeds that might infest interior ornamentals, nursery and landscape ornamentals, turf, and greenhouse plant materials; prepares the horticulture professional for the examination for pesticide application certification.

HORT 124 – 3 Credits
Nursery and Greenhouse Management
Examines greenhouse and nursery structures and facilities; covers greenhouse and nursery crop production techniques and procedures.

Horticulture Business Management
Studies the business practice associated with the horticulture industry; covers business communication, accounting and record keeping, career opportunities, governmental and legal regulations, business plan development, labor relations.

Landscape Installation, Construction and Maintenance I
Studies the important aspects of landscape installation and maintenance; covers tools, equipment, site preparations, amendments, plantings, stakings, transplanting and pruning of plants.

HORT 150 – 3 Credits
Horticulture Mechanics
Develops basic mechanical skills in the areas most generally required by many grounds maintenance, landscaping, and ornamental horticulture businesses; covers hand tool/power tool use, power equipment operation and service/repair, tractor operation and service/repair, basic welding, basic plumbing, basic electrical, and tool fitting.

Cooperative Education I: Horticulture
Provides the student with academic credit for knowledge and skill outcomes derived from a planned work experience in the student's chosen career field; provides entry-level career-related experience and workplace competencies that employers value when hiring new employees.

Plant Classification and Identification
Explores the techniques for identifying plants in the field using simple instruments such as the hand lens and dissecting microscope; emphasis will be placed on vascular plants, but other types will be discussed and studied in the classroom, laboratory, and field.

Herbaceous Garden Plants: Spring
Provides for the study of herbaceious perennials, annuals, biennials, and geophytes that are cultivated in gardens and landscapes for spsring interest, with emphasis on identification, environment requirements, aesthetic character, and landscape design uses.
Prerequisites: RDNG 052 or ESOL 054
HORT 224 – 3 Credits
Turf Management
Studies the identification of the warm and cold season turf grass species used in residential, commercial, and golf course installation; special emphasis will be placed on installation, establishment, environmental factors, and cultural practices.

HORT 225 – 2 Credits
Pesticide Use and Safety
Prepares the horticultural professional for the examination for pesticide application certification; covers principles of pest control, pesticides, laws and regulations, pesticide labeling, pesticides and human health, personal protective equipment, pesticides and the environment, handling pesticides, pesticide emergencies, and pesticide alternatives.

Landscape Design
Studies the principles and practices of landscape design; special emphasis will be placed on the proper and effective use of plant and landscape materials in developing areas.

HORT 233 – 2 Credits
Landscape Design Studio
Provides individual critiques on various landscape designs; expands on landscape design principles taught in Landscape Graphics (HORT107) and Landscape Design (HORT 230).

HORT 234 – 3 Credits
Landscape Installation, Construction and Maintenance II
Examines the techniques used in the construction of common landscape projects such as patios, walks, retaining walls, fences, foundations, waterfalls, pools, and steps; covers the various tools and construction materials used in landscape construction.
