Program Description:
The Associate to Master's (ATM) program is designed for students who already have a non-nursing Bachelor's degree and want to obtain a Master's degree in Nursing with a concentration in Education. The goal of the program is to expand the number of Master's prepared registered nurses who want to teach in a nursing program. The program is a collaborative effort between CCBC and Towson University. Students will complete an Associate degree in Nursing (A.S.) at the CCBC Essex campus and continue to completion of the Master's degree at the Towson University campus. Students will be enrolled full-time and year-round and will complete the program within three years. This program is offered only at the Essex campus, and admission occurs once each year, into the spring semester.
Pre-admission Testing
A pre-admission examination, the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is required for admission to the nursing program. Information about the testing procedures is available from the Nursing Department or the case manager, or contact the Office of Selective Admissions at 443-840-2810 or www.ccbcmd.edu/allied_health.
Selective Admissions
The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program is a selective admission program. Students will be ranked for admission utilizing specific selection criteria which include grades on prerequisite courses, score on the TEAS preadmission examination, and performance at an interview.
After admission, successful completion of a dosage course is required prior to enrolling in the first Nursing Program course.
Admission Requirements
--Application deadline is October 15 for spring admission.
--Applicants must have a non-nursing Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution. The overall Bachelor's GPA must be at least 3.00.
--All prerequisite courses must be completed prior to beginning the program in the spring semester.
--If the applicant has ever attended CCBC, the overall CCBC GPA must be at least 2.00.
--All applicants must complete the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) preadmission examination by the application deadline.
--Highly qualified applicants will be invited to participate in an interview. A writing sample will be requested at the interview.
--Students will apply to and must meet admissions requirements at both CCBC and Towson University.
Financial Aid
Students are encouraged to make a financial plan prior to program entry since full-time employment is not recommended during this program. Information about scholarships and loans is available from the financial aid offices at CCBC and Towson University.
SHP Policies
Students in the School of Health Professions are expected to conduct themselves according to an honor code; exhibit professional behavior; and communicate effectively in English, both written and oral. Students will be required to provide documentation of health insurance and titres/immunizations, CPR certifications, physical examination, and PPD/chest x-ray. All students will be required to complete criminal background checks through Precheck and may be required to submit to random drug testing.
Nursing Program Competencies
Upon graduation from the Community College of Baltimore County Nursing Program, the Associate Degree nurse generalist will be able to:

Provide nursing care to patients, families and groups that supports their cultural and spiritual customs, beliefs, and values;

Design health promotion activities that contribute to the wellness of patients, families and groups;

Demonstrate accountability and responsibility in the management of nursing care of patients, families and groups;

Analyze the essential pharmacologic principles used in providing care for patients;

Incorporate the knowledge, responsibilities and standards essential to the professional practice of nursing;

Organize nursing care to promote and maintain safety for patients, families and groups;

Perform nursing skills independently using available technology to meet standards of efficacy and safety; and

Integrate teaching into the nursing care of patients, families and groups.
