Welcome Music Students!
Welcome to the Music Department website of the of the Community College
of Baltimore County, Essex Campus. The material contained in these pages
will orient you to the CCBC Essex music program and explain our program
requirements and our expectations of our music majors. We hope it will
answer many of the common questions students may have about studying
music. If you have any questions about the content of the web pages,
please do not hesitate to contact us.
While we, the faculty, will make every effort to assist you in your
development at CCBC Essex, we will expect from you, the student, your
best efforts.
The Mission Statement of The Music Department at CCBC Essex
The mission of the Essex Campus Music Department of The Community
College of Baltimore County is to provide students with opportunities to
experience and learn about a broad spectrum of music (from the European
fine art tradition and the many types of American music to the music of
cultures around the world); to partner with students in developing the
verbal and technical skills necessary to communicate through music and
to articulate the knowledge of music; to inspire students to participate
in musical activities, and to foster the intellectual, creative, and
spiritual growth of musicians by instilling in them a commitment to
artistic and personal excellence.
The Goals of The Music Department at CCBC Essex
For the music major transfer program:
-
To offer students who plan to pursue careers in music the opportunity
to complete the first two years of the four-year requirement for a
Bachelor’s degree at other institutions in the state of Maryland; and
-
To provide a firm theoretical foundation for music majors who plan to
continue their training at transfer institutions.
For the music major and the non-music major:
-
To contribute to the general development of the cultural environment
of the student body through its participation in and appreciation of
music;

To provide general music courses for CCBC Essex students;
-
To provide lessons (training and learning opportunities) in applied
music for those students who plan to pursue baccalaureate degrees in
music, as well as for other interested students;

To provide the opportunity for students to participate in group music
experiences;

To provide the students and the community the opportunity to
participate in and observe music performances; and
-
To integrate technologies appropriate to music learning.
For the college and community:
-
To serve as a general resource and provide the college and campus with
guidance, assistance and advice in matters pertaining to music; and
-
To maintain community-based performing ensembles (including a youth
orchestra, concert band, chorus, jazz ensemble, senior adults show
choir) designed to meet the performance needs of the community.
