Crossover Assignment Procedure
Faculty members have a home department or primary area of responsibility
for which they hold seniority and may hold tenure. The Community
College of Baltimore County faculty members may apply for a position in
a different department or area of responsibility.
A. Full-time Ongoing Assignment: Full-time ongoing
assignment means that the faculty member has a full teaching load or its
equivalent in a discipline area of responsibility other than a home
department. The receiving department must be able to demonstrate a need
for a full-time position and should be closely involved in the review
process that would lead to the new appointment. The Community College of
Baltimore County faculty who obtain a full-time position in the new home
discipline/department (primary area of responsibility) will retain their
current rank/grade and salary step. Seniority within the sending
department continues to accrue while the individual works in the
receiving department. The receiving department is responsible for the
individual's evaluation. Faculty members who are tenured in the sending
department when they crossover maintain tenure if they return. Faculty
earn tenure in the receiving department in the same manner as new
faculty.
B. Split Ongoing Assignment: The same policies governing a
full-time appointment apply to split ongoing assignments. The faculty
member's rights and responsibilities within the receiving department
would be determined by the involved division, department, and the
faculty member.
Items that should be considered are:
1. Attendance at department and division meetings
2. Committee assignments
3. Summer and overload rotations
4. Work schedule including beginning and ending dates
(if non-teaching)
5. Time required for non-teaching assignments
Evaluation shall be prepared in the home department with full and
appropriate input from the receiving departments, weighted
proportionately relative to approximate work distribution.
Responsibilities reside within the home department but may be met in
the receiving department by negotiation.
