About the Program
Health care is the fastest growing market in the computer field. The Health Information Management (HIM) field is rapidly evolving from paper-based medical records management to an increasingly electronic environment. Skill sets for HIM professionals are expanding to include a wide range of technical expertise in specialized areas, including relational database management, data communications, programming, and systems analysis.
The Health Informatics and Information Technology (HIIT) degree program offers courses in the health record, medical coding, reimbursement, and health data analysis while providing a strong technology core to prepare students for today's HIM office.
Students who complete this degree will find employment in hospitals and other health care facilities, insurance companies, government agencies, technology companies, and consulting firms as health information technicians, clinical documentation specialists, compliance managers, quality assurance officers, medical informatics managers, case mix analysts, and health data analysts.
The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM), 233 Michigan Avenue, Suite 2150, Chicago, IL 60601; (312) 233-1183 in cooperation with the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Graduates are eligible to take the national certification examination administered by AHIMA. Passing this examination entitles the graduate to use the credential Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT). The HIIT program is designated as a Health Manpower Shortage program. Students from any county can enroll at Baltimore County tuition rates.

Certificate Programs
Into the field of Medical Coding!
The Medical Coding certificate is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions as medical coders in the health care industry. The content combines health information knowledge with computer technology and management skills. Students who complete this certificate will find employment in hospitals, insurance companies, government agencies, skilled nursing facilities, long-term facilities, and ambulatory care facilities.
The Medical Coding certificate program is approved by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Students who successfully complete this certificate program will be eligible to take the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) examination administered by AHIMA.
