Explore the different cultural influences of Argentine Society, especially as expressed in the tango. Participants will learn about the formation and environmental impact of waterfalls by visiting some of the world's most spectacular ones in Iguazu National Park. Specifically, the Argentine Falls is set in a subtropical rainforest with more than 2,000 plant species and more than 400 species of birds. In addition, travelers will compare and contrast the cosmopolitan and multicultural city life of Buenos Aires and ranch life on the Argentine pampas of Estancia Santa Susana. Other highlights include a folklore show, a horse ride in the impressive landscape of Los Cardales that is dedicated to agriculture, and a boat trip to Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay. For the boat trip, participants will tour the Portuguese fortress that was discovered during the 17th century. A full-day excursion to the Tigre area is also included. During this excursion, participants will enjoy a boat ride along the innumerable channels of the Parana Delta in route to one of the hundreds of beautiful islands.

Includes: Round trip airfare, sightseeing with a local tour guide, 24-hour service of tour manager, all excursions, double room accommodations, two meals for most days, and three meals on two days.

Cuernavaca, Mexico

Howard Community College, Frederick Community College, CCBC, and Universidad Internacional (Uninter) in Cuernavaca, Mexico, join hands in offering an exciting option for learning Spanish. Spend three weeks in Mexico studying Spanish at a premier language school and earn academic credits or a certificate of proficiency. With this study option, you will fly to Mexico for three weeks to work with a professional staff of Mexican instructors on language acquisition, conversation skills, and Mexican culture. You will visit some of Mexico’s famous sites. You will live with a family, meet students from around the world at Uninter’s campus, and return in time to begin the spring semester.

In Cuernavaca you will be placed in a small class of about five students based upon your level of Spanish language proficiency. Mondays through Fridays, there will be six hours of language instruction, conversation practice, and study of Mexican culture. Visits to hospitals and clinics will be scheduled for Allied Health students. There will also be special programs for police. In the evenings and on weekends, excursions and fiestas will offer you many opportunities to absorb the language and culture of Mexico.

The Egyptian program that was offered in June 2008 was popular and filled quickly. Accordingly, we are offering the trip again!

During the 2009 trip, participants will visit the land of the Pharaohs and tour places where Jacob and Joseph traveled during the famine. Participants will also tour the ancient world, which dates back to over 1,000 years prior to Abraham. Additionally, they will spend time at one of the seven wonders of the world (Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx). There will be opportunities to see Tutankhamen's treasures and ancient remains at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo as well as participate in a day trip to Alexandria, known as "The Pearl of the Mediterranean" which has an atmosphere that is more Mediterranean than Middle Eastern. During this day trip, you will see the Fort at Quit Bay and the ancient catacombs of Kom and Pompey's Pillar while relaxing and enjoying the views of the Montaza Palaces. There are other experiences that cannot be missed. These experiences include: a three-day cruise on the Nile; a visit to the Valley of the Kings where the ancient Pharaohs are buried; a tour of the famous Temple of Hatshepsut; an excursion to the famous Temple of Luxor; and trips to the Temple of Karnak (one of Egypt's most important Pharaonic sites), Edfu, and Kom Ombo. Participants will also visit the modern city of Aswan (where the High Dam was built) and take time to stroll through the city markets. Thereafter, they will travel by bus to Abu Simbel in Upper Egypt to tour the UNESCO world heritage site known as the "Nubian Monuments" as well as to see the Temple of Ramses II.

This is a summer study program to learn Chinese arts, culture, and history. The Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) will be our host institution. CAFA is the best Fine Arts institution in China and is located in Chaoyang District in Beijing. Participants will spend the first ten days in Beijing , the capital of modern China and home of the Great Wall and Forbidden City, then will have about seven days traveling to Shanghai, the commercial center of China, and Xi’an, where the terracotta warriors were unearthed. CAFA will provide students with a unique opportunity to see and to participate in the art and culture of Beijing, and offer state of the art studio facilities, faculty, visiting artists, and the series of lectures on traditional, contemporary Chinese and international art. CAFA students have access to a rich array of galleries, museums, artists’ studios, and places of historical interests in Beijing and China.

This program is offered for three (3) credits for Fine Arts 102 (HCC), studying art, culture, and history of China or equivalent CCBC course. This involves academic course work, hands on experiences, artists' demonstrations, field trips to ancient artifact sites, museums, theaters, galleries and artists' studios, visits with local Chinese families, and more. The Cost includes: roundtrip and domestic airfare in China; ground transportation to and from the airport; scheduled field trips, fees, lodging, and most meals at host institution (The Central Academy of Fine Arts); hotels and all meals in Xi'an and Shanghai; and tickets for museums and theater events.

The participant will meet students from around the world at the Soochow campus and will be placed in small classes, based upon their level of Chinese language proficiency, for four hours each day. In the evenings and on the weekends, there will be excursions and expeditions where the participant will have more opportunities to absorb the language and culture of China. CCBC students who are seeking credit for the Chinese course must have written permission from the CCBC Language Department.

Cost: $2,950.00* (not including cost of taking courses for credit*)

Explore the beauty and culture of South Africa. You will visit Johannnesburg, the biggest city in South Africa and its' financial hub. You will go on game drives in the famous Kruger National Park, where you will have the opportunity to view a wide variety of game, including the "big five" (lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and Rhino) from open safari vehicles. Your travels will include travelling through the Highveld palteau with its thundering waterfalls, into the Mpumalanga, a province of sub-tropical savanna, deep revines, emerald valleys, crystal-clear streams, teeming wildlife and fascinating history. You will visit the Lesedi Cultural Village, where you will experience the colorful traditions of Basotho, Ndebele, Pedi, Xhosa and Zulu people. From this area, you will fly to Cape Town, where there will be a city tour, and a tour of Table Mountain. This city is situated amongst majestic mountains and beautiful white beaches. In this area, you will tour 12 Apostles and Hout Bay, Chapmans Peak, and the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, where the waters of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. You will have the opportunity ot view penguins at Boulder's Beach, travel through the local wine regions and sample some wines at Stellenbosch, Franschoek and Paarl. Finally there will be a trip to Robben Island, where there is a maximum security prison, which was a place of banishment, exile and isolation. Here rulers sent those considered to be political trouble makers, outcasts and the unwanted of society. During Apartheid, this prison was known for its' institutional brutality.
