Types of Learning Communities

Paired courses: In this type of learning community,
students enroll in two or more courses purposely linked together.
Instructors work together outside of class to provide a
collaborative environment within the classroom and overlap course
material where appropriate.

Clusters: In this type of learning community,
students enroll in three or more discrete courses linked by common
themes, historical periods, issues, and problems.

Developmental Learning Communities: In this type of
learning community, students enrollin two courses, of which at least
one is a developmental course. The second course in the pair is
either a general education course or another developmental course.

Honors Learning Communities: In this type of
learning community, students enroll in two Honors courses purposely
linked together. Instructors work together outside of class to
provide a collaborative environment within the classroom and overlap
course material where appropriate.

English as a Second Language Learning Communities:
In this type of learning community, students enroll in two or more courses,
one being an ESOL coursether. Instructors work together outside of
class to provide a collaborative environment within the classroom
and overlap material where appropriate.
