Middle States Accreditation

Middle States Self-Study

A mainstay of the local and regional educational community, the Community College of Baltimore County is an accredited institution and a member of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). As an accredited institution, CCBC must meet rigorous and comprehensive standards and requirements within the context of institutional mission and within the culture of ethical practices and institutional integrity.

CCBC’s accreditation status is Accreditation Reaffirmed. The Commission’s most recent action on the institution’s accreditation status on June 23, 2022 was to reaffirm accreditation.

MSCHE is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

In the spirit of continuous improvement and innovation, every eight years CCBC engages in an inclusive self-study process to document ongoing compliance with the MSCHE Standards for Accreditation and Requirements for Affiliation. CCBC is reaffirmed when the MSCHE Board of Commissioners validates that the college's institutional goals are achieved through self-examination and peer review. CCBC’s most recent accreditation process, Middle States 2022: Rethink. Reenvision. Reaffirm., began in October 2019 and culminated in a site visit and peer review in 2022.

The process

Middle States Accreditation involves a rigorous self-study process aimed at evaluating an institution’s compliance with accrediting standards, ensuring the quality of its educational programs. This process begins with an in-depth analysis of the institution’s mission, goals, and objectives, followed by an assessment of its academic programs, faculty qualifications, student support services and administrative functions.

Through this intensive process, colleges identify areas of strength and areas of improvement, culminating in the development of an accreditation report that outlines action plans. This report serves as the basis for external review by accrediting agencies to determine if the institution meets accreditation standards.
